Forgive me, but I haven't followed this too closely, but lets just ignore the fact that Brown was married. Let's say he was single, never married. 1. Was he was her boss? 2. Did she sleep with him? 3. After sleeping with him, did he appoint her to a political post?

He was not her boss, either directly or indirectly. At the time of their relationship, he was Speaker of the California Assembly (a state official), and she was an Assistant District Attorney for Alameda County (a county official). --BobBackInTex wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 4:52 pmForgive me, but I haven't followed this too closely, but lets just ignore the fact that Brown was married. Re: The VP
Not remotely close. Because Esto clearly implied the future Vice President (a) got appointments she didn't deserve, and (b) entered into the relationship with Speaker Brown in order to get those appointments. And those are implications Esto would never have drawn were the genders reversed. As I said, when people get job opportunities because of personal relationships, we often congratulate them and sometimes call them Ambassador. --BobBackInTex wrote: ↑Mon Mar 07, 2022 10:37 pmOh, ok. Are you saying that because someone might not draw the same conclusion if facts were different then the original conclusion is wrong? Seems like that is what you are saying, which is flawed reasoning, even in high school debate class.Bob78164 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:33 amNot remotely close. I know you think gender doesn't matter, we are all the same, biologically and emotionally, but the actual truth is men are highly more likely to grant favors for sex than women are. And because of that, some women use their sexuality to get things they may not be able to get otherwise. It's been that way for 1,000s of years and your wokeness won't change that history, or the way things currently work.
None of what I've said implies the VP got anything she didn't earn or deserve. Like I said, I haven't dug into the story so I don't know all the facts, however, you nor others have said anything to counter Esto's assertion. You've only corroborated his evidence he is using to make his assertion.
You are dismissing the VPs sexual relationship as only a personal one. You know that is several levels above just a personal relationship. That differentiation will always be included in a trial if a relationship is a meaningful part of evidence.

Re: The VP
The actual truth is that for almost all of human history, men have been in a much better position than women to grant favors of any sort for any reason. It's been that way for thousands of years, and your Neanderthal views won't change that history, or the sexism underlying Esto's attack on the Vice President.BackInTex wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:40 amI know you think gender doesn't matter, we are all the same, biologically and emotionally, but the actual truth is men are highly more likely to grant favors for sex than women are. There MIGHT be an argument that Speaker Brown had done something wrong. There might be such an argument, that is, if the relationship were not generally known at the time of the appointments or if the future Vice President had received positions for which she was unqualified. (Remember "Heckuva job, Brownie"?) But none of that is true, and there is no basis whatsoever for using this history as a basis to impugn the future Vice President. So I'll stick to my opinion that Esto revealed himself to be a sexist pig. --Bob

You've never answered my question, though. The steps we are taking to support Ukraine will undoubtedly lead to higher inflation and higher gas prices here at home. That's money out of your pocket. Are you, personally, willing to bear that cost to support the people in Ukraine who are actually risking their lives? Or are you going to bitch that actually doing something to help others is too inconvenient or distasteful for you, which is exactly what you've done with the COVID vaccine?
I should add, by the way, that over on Facebook I've seen Bored members book Air BnBs in Ukraine. Not because they have any intention whatsoever of using those reservations, but as a quick way of putting money in the hands of Ukrainian families. Would you care to emulate that admirable example? It's a fairly easy way for you to contribute to the war effort. --Bob

As a matter of fact I have. I continue to support the now-expired tax break that was part of the American Rescue Plan. It seems like a very good way to help shield the neediest among us from the effects of inflation. And if billionaires have to give back the tax breaks they got in 2017 in order to pay for that support, I'm okay with that too. --Bobflockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 1:16 pmOne thing I think your virtuous heart is not considering, bob. It’s the very same checks they were getting through 2021 so it appears they figured it out. Right bob, so they are all warm, fuzzy and cozy because you're looking out for them, right? Their taxpayer funded checks will tide them over til Biden gets a hold on the temporary inflation problem. What? Didn't you say they don't get them anymore? At least you still support the idea, so there's that. Bob, when will it be when we can't afford the DEBT? Please give us a little warning time. I know you're an expert and all, but it would be more convincing if you got your terms correct (like they do in THE Ukraine)

Flock, you ignorant slut, checks can be mailed to the address on the tax form or direct-deposited to the bank account designated on the tax form. Getting a photo ID often requires taking time off work. Particularly when, as happened in Alabama, the Republican state government closes every DMV office in the county.flockofseagulls104 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 7:19 pmRight bob, so they are all warm, fuzzy and cozy because you're looking out for them, right? We can always afford debt denominated in our own currency. I’ll start feeling concerned when long-term bond rates start climbing. That hasn’t happened. —Bob

You must have a whole lot of convolutions in your brain for that kind of convoluted thinking. Someone who can and has to fill out a tax form and can deal with checks and banks cannot possibly get a valid ID? Really bob? I know you never read my post about the flawed 'study' that started and maintains this voter ID fraud. But that is to be expected.Bob78164 wrote: ↑Tue Mar 08, 2022 9:55 pmFlock, you ignorant slut, checks can be mailed to the address on the tax form or direct-deposited to the bank account designated on the tax form. I guess Congress will consult with you, then, as to when it's time to stop spending money they don't have. Since they know you know everything about everything, they don't need to be worried until you are. The hell with anybody who's worried now. What the heck do they know?
But this is all beside the point, (as you well know). I'm just going with the distraction. We all know all the extreme sacrifices you are making. The good people of Ukraine all know it and are profoundly grateful to you. And the people who have to make hard choices about what they can afford, they know you are suffering too.

You claimed that Vice President Harris was "sleeping with the boss." That is a lie. At the time their relationship started, the future Vice President was an assistant district attorney for Alameda County, with no reporting responsibilities whatsoever to then-Speaker Brown.
You claimed that Vice President Harris only got those positions because she was "sleeping with the boss." That is a lie that exposes you as a sexist pig. She got those positions because she is a Hastings-educated lawyer who's damn good at her job and was nonetheless willing to work for a government salary. But it's apparently inconceivable to you that a bright young woman (she was around 30 at the time) could actually deserve the job based on her own merits.
No one even notices when white men get access to job opportunities based on their personal connections. Hell, we expect it and often congratulate them for successfully working the system. Sometimes we even give them titles, like "Ambassador."
Pigs like you, on the other hand, can't seem to help but assume that when it's a woman who gets that access, particularly a woman of color, she couldn't possibly have been qualified for the job based on her own merits. This is emphasized by your claim that Brown was "no Denzel Washington," which clearly states your position that she was in the relationship for transactional reasons. (And I suspect there are plenty of women out there who would have found Brown physically attractive independent of his position.) Believe it or not, you sexist pig, some women don't require movie-star looks.
Why do you care that Brown was married at the time? I suppose you could argue that Brown was behaving poorly toward his wife (although he wasn't, as explained below), but that's got nothing to do with the future Vice President. If there's any blame to be had, it belongs with the married member of the partnership, not the single member.
But there is no blame to be had. As the link points out, although Brown hadn't divorced his then-wife, they'd been separated for about 13 years by the time the future Vice President started dated him. No one made any effort to keep the relationship a secret. So do you think that Brown should have cut off his wife from access to health insurance to satisfy your notions of morality? Or maybe he should have just foregone having a personal life unless she died first.
And before you answer that last question, you should know that one of my sisters did exactly the same thing -- staying married to her estranged husband for approximately a decade so that he could stay on her insurance. She didn't finalize the divorce until she was ready to remarry. --Bob

Under the law, he was married. She knew it, too. If he was maintaining a sham marriage just for his wife's health insurance, perhaps not dating is a reasonable condition.Bob78164 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 06, 2022 12:49 pmWhy do you care that Brown was married at the time? How altruistic of her. She cheated her insurance company until she met someone new.
