ANSWERS
1. This church in Moscow's Red Square is commonly known as what saint's Cathedral?
Saint Basil. It's more formally known as The Cathedral of Intercession of the Virgin on the Moat, but I can see why it's easier to call it St. Basil's.
2. What Yugoslav president (and former partisan leader during World War II) died on May 4, 1980?
Josip Broz Tito. An interesting discovery for me, while researching this question: During World War I, he was a draftee in the Austro-Hungarian army when he was wounded and then captured by the Russians, on the same front where my grandmother's family were civilians, suffering through the war.
It was during his time as a POW in Russia that Tito became a Bolshevik.
3. What Stravinsky ballet, depicting a pagan ritual where a girl dances herself to death, provoked a riot during its premiere in Paris?
The Rite of Spring a.k.a
Le Sacre du Printemps. This is one of those questions that could get you in trouble on J!, for those who pluralized "Rites", but I let this one slide.
4. Who succeeded Vladimir Putin as president of Russia in May 2008?
Dmitry Medvedev. Tmitsss's "Mendelev" answer was close enough for half credit (but no bonus), and I also gave Annie half credit for knowing his first name. Full humor points credit for Putinsochpuppetiov.
