BTW, I still do sort of feel like a gate crasher and without knowing the full history of the bored, I don't really get all the inside jokes and running gags (is there a back story to the whole squirrel business, whats the deal with the references to Kevin Nealon, I understood Llama because I remember that episode from PTBOM), but there is still a lot of references that go over my head - and probably things I don't even realize are references. I know that there are a lot of long term relationships that have formed on the bored, but at times it feels like I've come across a novel where the first three-quarters of it have been removed and destroyed.

As a newbee myself, I'm likely to cut Ms. von Trapp a little slack - it is a little daunting for someone joining to get a comfortable feeling on the bored sometimes. This is not a fault of the bored, everyone has been more then wonderful and welcoming. In fact I consider the people I've meet on the bored and the support I've recieved to be among the top benefits of getting on Millionaire. Like I said, even if I bombed on my first question (and I'm not saying I didn't) it would have been worth it based on all the great people and experiences I had that I wouldn't have had if not for the bored. I treasure the threads that were started when I was NY waiting for my taping. All I'm trying to say is that sometimes integrating into a family with a long history is not that easy. In addition, if you build something up and you fail at it, its not always easy to be part of a group that would constently remind you of your failure. Not that anyone on the bored would make fun of that person, shun them or ridicule them, just the opposite - everyone was nothing but supportive to Julie after finding out that she didn't pass the test, but if personally one doesn't want to be reminded of what they may view as a bad experience, not everyone would feel comfortable immersing themselves in reminders of that experience.

So if you don't mind the opinion from someone who is still trying to get acclumated and who still feels I haven't come close to paying the dues but is gathering the wealth of the situation, I expect there will be a long series of one-night-stands, so don't feel scorned, you have to break some eggs to make an omlett, a rolling stone gathers no moss, don't count your chickens before they hatch, and remember living well is the best revenge.

Mr. Jay, I can tell you why the squirrel thing started. One day I was explaining why I didn't like squirrels and I thought most of them were evil. Some people agreed with me, and some people stuck up for squirrels. A few people (and I won't name names) were jokey guys and liked to tease me about them. It's okay. I like them anyway. I like everybody. That's the kind of girl I am.

If it's a joke, it's undecipherable and if it's serious then it's jagoff territory. I like Julie (and I don't like anybody). Take that!

Plus, if someone disappears then they are totally unaware of this and therefore beyond your powers of submission. If they have not disappeared, then there's nothing to out and you've only insulted them unnecessarily.

Whenever auditions are taking place and calls are being made, we're going to have that "flurry" of new people showing up.

Most of the people here do a great job of making them feel welcome and offering help of any kind. There are all kinds of personalities out there.
There are a large number here who have been together for 9 years - or close to it. We do have a lot of "inside stuff" that would be hard to understand.

It's easier for some personalities to stick around than others. I don't think any less of those that don't feel like hanging around. They came here because they were interested in getting on WWTBAM, not be part of a social group that includes talking dogs, cats, and squirrels...NTTAWWT.

The BB Directory is full of people who have showed up for a brief period of time, usually for an audition or show appearance, and are never seen again. I'd bet about 90% of the people who have darkened our door in this Bored's history never stuck around for even a month.....

It's the 10% of those who HAVE stayed and become regulars or semi-regulars that are special anyway.... and thankfully, Puzzled Julie is in this group and not the other group.....
