A sports show on ESPN where the host talks about different topics with 4 sportswriters via satellite. It's a lot more interesting than it sounds, because the host is a smart-ass kid who's a sports nerd with a wicked sense of humor, and the sportswriters really try to ham it up and the little personal rivalries are hilarious. Very entertaining TV sandwiched between Rome is Burning and PTI.... if you're into sports, of course!

Judge Judy is one of the few trash TV shows I not only can tolerate, but actually enjoy (Someone from my hoosier town even wound up on there one time). I used to watch it all the time until "Around the Horn" wound up in its same time slot....

Sigh..... Judge Judy is NOT trash tv! Those other judge shows, yes, but not my Judy!!

Don't get me wrong, I love Judy, and even her sidekick Bert. She's the only TV judge who can hold a candle to the king of them all Judge Wapner. But the people fighting it out on that show always seem very Springeresque, thus the trash TV designation.....

Just for the record, her sidekick is Byrd...which is his last name. I thought it was Bert as well for a long time, then happened to see the credits after the show one day. :) His full name is Petri Hawkins-Byrd.

He's 6'4 and 240! He doesn't look that big to me on TV.

Here's a nice article about him, although it disses the show in the beginning. Ignore that part and keep reading.

Thank goodness BoB corrected that before I saw it and got an attack of the vapours.

Hey! I didn't see this before I posted! I'm amazed you're questioning Byrd as a last name but apparently don't have any questions about somebody being named after a glass dish. Ha!

Byrd is a triple threat. Hot, smart and funny.

I was questioning why he would be called by his last name. Why not call him Pete, or Hawkins, or just plain Hawk? Of course, a Hawk is just another Byrd, but you know......

I really thought she was calling him Bert all this time.....

I don't think he was Hawkins-Byrd until the tv gig. Kind of like London Fletcher-Baker. Or is it Baker-Fletcher?

In court, judges usually refer to the bailiff as "Officer Last Name" so it's just habit when speaking directly to them to call them Last Name.

I also know several people who go by their last name, so to me it's not unusual. Besides, if my first name was Petri, I'd go by my last name as well. Ha!

See, this really is an educational bored. :D Somehow, I just can't picture Judge Judy calling him Petri.

When JJ uses him as an example, she occasionally refers to "Petri Hawkins-Byrd".

I was going to edit my previous post about a petri dish by adding that his first name is pronounced "Pet-ri" rather than "Pete-ri". At least that's how Judy pronounces it, so that's how it is. Ha!

He's probably known as Big Byrd to his friends!

Me, too! I LOVE TV COURT SHOWS AND I'M NOT ASHAMED TO ADMIT IT!! (well, now that you guys already have).

Isn't Marilyn Milian great? She's brilliant, savvy, extremely fair, and takes no crap. I really wanna buy her a Mojito and then go shoe shopping. Judge Judy is a riot - I aspire to terrify the truth out of family and strangers alike with one stare and a shriek, just like Auntie Judy...
Has anyone checked out Judge Alex? I'm not sure if it's still on, but i sure liked him fine...

Here's Fanny! wrote:I can remember all that, but not the outcome. Ha! Seems like she had to pay him for the apartment lease, but not the $700 for the LSAT she never took because she used it for books. Whoever kept the bed was responsible for the taxes. Dad also got a little chastisement for being a Bad Dad.
I still had it on DVR. This is pretty close, but the issue was a mattress that never arrived, not the taxes. He bought the "$5,000 bed" for $2,500; she had it redelivered without ever accepting it, and claimed she never saw the mattress. JJ ruled that he bought what she had, and basically it was his problem to put a mattress on it.

The LSAT prep course she wanted was $1,400 and he put up $700 for it. Since that wasn't enough, she bought about $500 worth of prep books instead. She said that her trip to TPIR was already funded (from other scholarship money ?!) and didn't come out of the $700. JJ didn't give him anything back on this.

JJ gave him $2400 back on the apt lease he co-signed on and she broke, sticking him with same, but only because she said the law was very clear on that and not because she really wanted to give him anything at all.

Both in court and in the exit interview, he said he wanted to "teach her a lesson". Seems to me you're supposed to do that before they turn 18.

Wow, I can't believe I was actually that close!

And I love that you DVR Judy! When they start back on the first runs I'll know who to ask when Chief Meteorologist Matt Meister can't wait 10 minutes for the news to start and cuts off JJ's ruling to tell us about some weather non-event.

No cable sucks. The Baboo is at home now waiting on our cable guy. At least all he has to do is move our connection so that we can enlarge our carport.
