Good thoughts request

#1 Post by hermillion » Thu Jun 05, 2008 10:45 pm

I was about to log in to say hi -- then the tornado sirens started going off.

So now I'm logging off and heading to the bathroom.

TV reports funnel on the ground a bit SW of me.

Later . . .

I certainly hope you check back in soon and let us know you're OK.

This line of storms finished passing through here about an hour ago. The only good thing you can say about it is that the line is fairly narrow and it's moving reasonably fast, so once the thunder stops, the bad weather is done for the night. I have the Tulsa radar up now, and it looks as if the most intense rotations are south of Hermillion (and my son #1 and his family.)

It's no fun listening to high winds and big hail, though. The neighbor's trees have contributed more downed branches to my yard. Although we had blinking lights earlier, the power has managed to stay on.

The good thoughts are on auto-pilot.

Evil squirrels are huddling in fear somewhere in your backyard. I'm glad you're OK and the storms have passed. We don't need storms, but we're getting to the point we sure could use some rain.

96+ temps the past week with no relief in sight is the current forecast.

Well, that was fun. herjosie does NOT like being confined to the bathroom!

We got very strong winds, and an amazing show of lightning, but I don't think there is actual tornado damage. As SC said, the band was quite narrow, so it passed over us pretty fast. We heard a huge CRACK in the back yard, and I believe one of my trees may have snapped. I don't have a whole lot of light back there, but can see foliage hanging much closer to my house than it should. I'll be able to see better in the morning, and my tree guy is on speed dial. Our tornado warning is about to expire, and now we're just on flash flood alert.

Summer in Oklahoma -- ya' gotta love it!

Thanks to all for the good thoughts!

Did the wind come sweepin' down the plain? I hear the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet when the wind comes right behind the rain.

I'm glad to hear you're doin' fine.

No hawks makin' lazy circles right at the moment.

All tornado warnings/watches have been cancelled, and there are no reports of tornado damage. Now we're hearing about the broken power poles, outages in many areas, and tree limbs all over the roads. After the ice storm, and the recent high wind incidents we've been through I'm amazed there is anything remaining to be torn off!

I broke out the big flashligh to take a look at the tree in my back yard, and it definitely snapped in two about 20 feet up. The top portion is still attached, but is hanging down to within 3 feet of the ground. I'm hoping to get the tree guy here in time to cut it down before it breaks off completely and flips back through my living room windows. We are still having some pretty strong winds right now, so I'm a little nervous.

In the meantime, you can use that pitchfork to help prop up the branch.

Most definitely! It's going to take some climbing and some ropes to handle this one. Oh well, I'll be able to use the firewood when the ice knocks out the power again this winter.

I'm glad that wasn't too bad. We had a tornado warning here in New Jersey last Saturday. We're probably going to have more.

Glad to hear that you made it thru last night's terrible storms. I wuz thinking of you and SC, while I was waiting for the line of storms to get to KC. We were lucky...only rain, wind, and frequent lightening. Manhattan, KS had a tornade...no damage to homes thank goodness.

hermillion, I will keep you, herjosie, SC & family all in my thoughts and prayers during the summer. Its tough living in the midwest!

Happy Friday!

I am glad everyone is OK.

I was a little worried. Those storms looked nasty on TV.

Wow - glad you guys made it through okay. Just remember, if Herjosie's clothing gets damaged (heaven forbid) Lola's got some things that are a little snug on her, since she never quite got her figure back after birthin' five babies.

That's right, just blame the squirrels. Why not the gophers?

If we were going to down a tree, we would have knocked it on top of a car, or a house, or a power line.... we don't just gratuitously destroy trees, since they're like our home.

But at least we don't dress up in silly costumes.... :P

As if. Clearly, you are jealous of Herjosie's haute couture, and the fallen tree is the result of a foiled attempt to steal it. You should bring some friends and family to Montana, Mr. Squirrel. We know how to treat evil squirrels up here. We'd be able to send you back to OK in a standard-size envelope.

Those are NOT silly costumes. Josie is wearing her ballerina skirt, in which she will become an international superstar after her dancing debut in my opera, and mine is my birthday suit.

Dear Mr. E. Squirrel,

Please calm down, I'm sure you are just upset about the threats to your home. Don't let those mean bigoted canines upset your any more. Please understand that we love you and will do our best to protect you from uncaring and fluffy little dogs. Please don't be tempted to taunt them by suggesting that their mother dresses them funny. I suspect that the dogs had something to do with destroying the homes of many squirrels, just look how they react when you have to retreat to your home when they threaten you. Its bark! bark! bark! for hours. We sure that interferes with you beauty sleep. And the obvious contempt that male dogs exhibit towards trees when doing their "business" is just shocking.

Your Friends.
