I actually think this may be a dem payout to someone, who is obviously batshit crazy. Voters should be able to rely on at least 50 percent of a candidate's background...
He could be impeached or indicted or...
Would his removal change the house makeup that much?

Re: Santos
He could be expelled, but that requires a 2/3 vote of the House. I don't think that will happen unless he's actually convicted of a crime. I was happy to see that several elected Republican officials called on him to resign. It gives me hope that the Republican Party as an institution is starting to reclaim some sense of right and wrong.Beebs52 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 12, 2023 3:59 pmI actually think this may be a dem payout to someone, who is obviously batshit crazy. The House currently has 222 Republicans and 212 Democrats, with one vacancy to be filled next month in what is widely believed to be a safe Democratic seat. Assuming that's the case, if Santos leaves office, the House would be down to 221 Republicans and 213 Democrats. The seat Santos won is very much a swing seat -- if anything, the Democratic nominee would probably be favored. --Bob

Wait. You meant that seriously? I thought you were joking.
No, Democrats were favored to win that seat, and Santos apparently worked the local Republican Party (telling his lies along the way) to get their endorsement. Santos is not a Democratic plant. --Bob

I thought you were joking too. I mean really, a plant would be much more subtle, sabotaging quietly, away from the limelight.

Because it puts the Democrats in an advantageous position being the only ones with no sense of right and wrong.

Let me rephrase. A great sense of right and wrong, but don't care as long as they stay in power. And use the right's sense of morality against them whenever possible.
Harry Reid, when asked about his false McCarthyite acusations about Mitt Romney, “Well, they can call it whatever they want,” Reid said. “Romney didn’t win, did he?”. Pretty much the attitudeof the entire Democrat Party, and most of its supporters. Including you.

Turns out Santos has ties to a Russian oligarch. Wild to think that an unqualified very junior House Republican might have ties to Russia!

Re: Santos
Navy veteran Richard Osthoff battled PTSD for years with the help of his devoted pit mix Sapphire. When she developed a stomach tumor, Osthoff reached out to Santos' "vet charity," not knowing that the whole thing was a scam. Santos set up a GoFundMe to pay for the scam, raised $3,000, closed the fundraiser and vanished with the money. Osthoff's beloved Sapphire passed away without surgery and the veteran, who was out of work with a broken leg, had to panhandle to pay for her cremation, saying "it was one of the most degrading things I ever had to do."

Re: Santos
I think this is the incident that sinks Santos. His large scale financial fraud probably won't register with a lot of people who think that "everybody does it." But taking money that was meant to pay for a veteran's ailing support dog's surgery goes too far for most people.Weyoun wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 4:17 pmDerp, Hunter Biden.Bob Juch wrote: ↑Wed Jan 18, 2023 10:12 amNavy veteran Richard Osthoff battled PTSD for years with the help of his devoted pit mix Sapphire.
