Local tv station reports 2 dead - one state trooper and the shooter. Six others wounded.

Local newspaper says suspect is in custody. (Of course, that might be custody in the morgue...)

Thanks; I can't do links from this tablet anyway.

Current broadcast reports say trooper in surgery. Hope that means they aren't dead after all.

Spiff's first link was updated at 4:38 PST and says:
A Virginia State Police spokesperson says that the suspect is dead and a trooper has life-threatening injuries after a shooting at the Greyhound station on North Boulevard on Thursday.

Spokeswoman Corinne Geller says a suspect opened fire on an officer at the station around 2:45 p.m. Two nearby troopers then shot the suspect, who died after being transported to VCU Medical Center. Two other people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Other police sources said the trooper had died, but Geller did not confirm this.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

The shooter fired at the officer when the officer asked to check his ID.

If only we had more good guys with guns parading around Greyhound bus stations, things like this would never happen. That guy would have been ventilated ten times over before he could possibly have shot the policeman.

Well there were something like 10 police officers at the bus station for a training exercise; the officer who was shot was one of them.

It's ironic that if there weren't police there the shooter wouldn't have used his gun but the police killed the shooter. Right place, wrong time.
