Thompson died from a recurrence of lymphona, according to a statement from his family to the newspaper.
"It is with a heavy heart and a deep sense of grief that we share the passing our brother, husband, father, and grandfather who died peacefully in Nashville surrounded by his family," the statement said.
..what country can preserve it’s liberties if their rulers are not warned from time to time that their people preserve the spirit of resistance? let them take arms.

War is where the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

Mr. Thompson first gained prominence in 1973, as minority counsel for the Senate Watergate Committee. He looked different then:
He asked White House staffer Alexander Butterfield, "Are you aware of the installation of any listening devices in the Oval Office of the President?" The rest is history.
Thompson got into acting the easy way, playing himself in the movie Marie, featuring Sissie Spacek as a whistle blower who exposed corruption in the Tennessee penal system. Thompson was one of the attorneys involved in the actual case and played the role in the movie as well.

My favorite Thompson role was on Wise Guy when he played the head of a white supremacist group. What the FBI gradually learn as they try to nail him is that he's only a con artist using the group to make money. It was his flunky, played by Paul Guilfoyle, who committed the real acts of violence. In the final scene of the story arc, you see him selling real estate to Jewish retirees in Florida, offering them samples of Manischevitz wine to close the deal.

I enjoyed his turn as Arthur Branch on Law and Order. The last time I saw him in an appearance for reverse mortgages, he seemed much older to me, and I guessed that he was in his mid-80s. This is upsetting, to learn he was 73. I don't how to avoid lymphoma, but whatever it takes, I hope I'm doing it.
