Millionaire Returns To Escalating Money Tree, Revives 50:50

#1 Post by chad1m » Mon Jun 22, 2015 3:36 pm

Starting this fall, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has eliminated the randomized dollar figures, returned to an escalating money tree and replaced Jump the Question with 50:50. More details have been posted in an article on my blog:

http://chadmosher.com/wordpress/millionaire-roots/

Does placing the show closer to its original form make you more likely to watch?

Happy to see escalating money tree back. Sad to see Jump go.

Will 50/50 be real 50/50, & not the one that left you with best distractor that show originally had?

I've been a daily viewer regardless, but I am very excited to see this change. Looking forward to seeing what else we get this year.

This is good news. I always thought the 50/50 was a helpful lifeline, especially if 2 choices seem like possible answers.

Now when are they announcing more road auditions?

Weren't there legal issues between 2 way Traffic and Disney that forced Millionaire to get rid of the original format five years ago? GUess it's OK for the show to go back to the original format. Still unknown as to whether the level of difficulty will increase with each question or not? Will the Hot Seat be back?

The producer who gave me my screening interview told me that Las Vegas was the last road audition planned for the year. So as of now, at least, they aren't planning any more. --Bob

Sony bought 2waytraffic about ten years ago.

I wonder if they're revert to the old music or at least revamp the shuffle music.

My guess would be to revamp the shuffle music or do something completely new. They can't very well use the current music as is because it's designed for a two-round game. It would sound slapped together used in Classic format. (Take a look at some international versions with differing money trees to see what I mean.)

I doubt the Strachan's music will come back, however. Remember back to those emails that Buzzerblog reported on. Apparently licensing fees have been a big deal this year. I don't see them licensing the Strachan's music when they could go to a stock house and purchase their own music. I assume the current music is purchased?

I'm still waiting for them to publish revisions to the Official Rules. --Bob

As Michael Davies told us in our pre-taping prep, 50-50 is the only lifeline guaranteed to be correct.

I am amazed and pleased that TPTB are doing something right!

I do hope that, if they're eliminating the JTQ, they're also eliminating the WWOQs that were intended to burn off that lifeline.

It worked for me.

WIll the 50 50 randomly take away two wrong answers as it did previously in the syndicated run, or will the two wrong answers taken away be pre-determined like on the Regis version?

We don't know and they may not tell. Supposedly the Regis version they were random too.

That's not correct. The Regis version (and the Play It! version) deliberately left the most difficult distractor. They didn't switch to random until the syndicated version started. --Bob

That may be but I don't think they ever admitted they did.

Not on the air but I distinctly remember Michael Davies as being quoted to that effect. --Bob

Producer is on record somewhere as saying they left best distractor during Regis BAM.

They went to random for syndi but reportedly some contestants didn't believe them.

You are correct. I may be the only person who ever used the non-random 50-50 twice in a single run.

Didn't you use ATA twice because that got restored to you when you went back on the show?

I don't recall that you used the 50:50 and got it given back to you.

Yeah, I can't keep those old school lifelines straight. I really should have used JTQ or my +1.

You should have written a 33 part story like I did to help with those hard to recall details... only in your case, it might be 133 parts.
