Millionaire Returns To Escalating Money Tree, Revives 50:50
Starting this fall, Who Wants To Be A Millionaire has eliminated the randomized dollar figures, returned to an escalating money tree and replaced Jump the Question with 50:50. More details have been posted in an article on my blog:

I've been a daily viewer regardless, but I am very excited to see this change. Looking forward to seeing what else we get this year.

This is good news. I always thought the 50/50 was a helpful lifeline, especially if 2 choices seem like possible answers.

Weren't there legal issues between 2 way Traffic and Disney that forced Millionaire to get rid of the original format five years ago? GUess it's OK for the show to go back to the original format. Still unknown as to whether the level of difficulty will increase with each question or not? Will the Hot Seat be back?

The producer who gave me my screening interview told me that Las Vegas was the last road audition planned for the year. My guess would be to revamp the shuffle music or do something completely new. They can't very well use the current music as is because it's designed for a two-round game. It would sound slapped together used in Classic format. I doubt the Strachan's music will come back, however. Remember back to those emails that Buzzerblog reported on. Apparently licensing fees have been a big deal this year. I don't see them licensing the Strachan's music when they could go to a stock house and purchase their own music. I assume the current music is purchased?

I am amazed and pleased that TPTB are doing something right!
I do hope that, if they're eliminating the JTQ, they're also eliminating the WWOQs that were intended to burn off that lifeline.

That's not correct. The Regis version (and the Play It! version) deliberately left the most difficult distractor. Producer is on record somewhere as saying they left best distractor during Regis BAM.
They went to random for syndi but reportedly some contestants didn't believe them.
