School Lockdown

#1 Post by PlacentiaSoccerMom » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:44 pm

The school that I pulled Maddie from in 7th grade (The GATE/IB magnet) has been on lockdown since 2:30 due to gunshots.

One of my friends called me to tell me. She said, I can only imagine what would have happened if Maddie had been there and they wouldn't let you get your kid.

The term "mama lion" springs to mind.

Here is a story about the incident:

I talked to Emma about the whole thing and she told me that in addition to fire drills, they have other drills in case of emergency. For instance, if there is an announcement, Mr. Soc, please come to the office, it means that a Stranger is On Campus and the doors to individual classrooms need to be locked until further notice.

They certainly weren't "incendiary devices".

If that had happened here, I'd give you 9 to 1 odds that the last thing the guy said before setting off the "bomb" was either "Hey, y'all, watch this!" or "Hold my beer."

And yes, some reporter needs to be edumacated on what incendiary means.

When I was a kid, my dad and I used to light trails of gunpowder off in the backyard.

Jeff's dad let the kids blow up weeds with firecrackers.

I used to manufacture fireworks - the type that go up in the air and explode. I had the sense to go to a deserted place when I shot them off.

Yeah, I remember what the streets looked like after 4th of July. There were piles of charcoaly paper everywhere. I lit off fireworks when I was 10 or 11. My kids aren't even allowed to light matches.

There are some cities in LA which sell fireworks in July. The kids think that it's a huge treat to light sparklers. They are the wimpiest fireworks of all.
