Sounds like something hosted by Leonard Pynth-Garnell (sp?--old Saturday Night Live character played by Dan Ackroyd).

That can be fixed in post-production. You could even hire Harry Shearer to dub in a likable and amusing voice. The possibilities are limited only by one's imagination.jurisdoctor07 wrote:I can certainly display the perkitude, but my voice sounds horrible in audio (uber nasally).
gsn is absolutely right, except for his last paragraph. It seems pretty clear that this method will only be used to select contestants for the Regis show. It states, "Producer will select entrants from Pool to receive an Eligibility Call. Those who complete the call and meet all eligibility requirements will be declared Finalists and travel to New York City with a friend for the opportunity to play for a chance to sit in the hot seat on network episodes of the Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ("Program") with Regis Philbin." Then there's a footnote that states, "Those persons not selected from the [video submission/online test] Pool will remain eligible for two (2) years for possible selection for future episodes of the network program (subject to change) or episodes of the syndicated program at producer's sole discretion."gsn309 wrote:Okay without getting too personal here and naming names -- I don't see how anyone who's been around here any decent amount of time could REALLY think this is "good news" --- for people who repeatedly have been rejected as contestants after in-person auditions.
It is interesting to me (but not at all surprising) that -- as someone else pointed out earlier in the thread --- most of the people calling it good news are people who have already been on the show.
To reiterate: ANY form of video selection, in-person selection, or even modified version of the phone game that considers age/gender/race/geography -- is NOT in the original spirit of the game, as the abc.com page about Millionaire indicates the PT return will be.
I am curious, though, if the vids will be used to troll for contestants for both shows. Right now, the info is only on the syndie page -- with the proviso that future eligibility info for the PT shows will be posted at a later date. I guess we'll see.
Clyde, most digital (photo) cameras these days have a "video capture" mode. That makes borrowing one much easier. Does your school have a camera you could use for a day? I doubt if the video quality means as much as the content of the clip. Sure, some will surely get in with LAVISH video productions, but I'd hope they don't dismiss a clip based on technical quality alone.lilclyde54 wrote:To me, this news seems more good than bad. My only negative is having to go buy some sort of digital video camera. Even that has to be cheaper than a trip to NYC or any other audition city.
It will still be called the "Fastest Finger" round when they do it again during these PT episodes, so what is the freakin difference??? Do you pay attention to anything that is going on with this show (in reality)??? If not, you should really stop with the discouraging comments...other people might be excited and might want to audition without all the negativity and false statements...ghostjmf wrote:Any contest that doesn't administer an in-person test but expects skills gets what they deserve.
Beloved PTBAM did administer an in-person test of sorts, & while not equivalent to the show format questions, it certainly was equivalent to some of the phone game questions; it was called the "Fastest Finger" round.
I sincerely hope the producers for this get absolutely flooded with youtubeish videos. Most of whom they'll want to book I'm sure, but I hope the flood will be at least whelming.
Shallah claims her word is a verb. I credit Sunflower with the noun. Besides, Shallah is Canadian, and I don't think the word has permeated the border...sunflower wrote:Huh...yet when you type it into their search, it says it's not a word. Then, I looked it up.

I guess I didn't make it up for real, but I made it up in my mind since I had not heard it before.
I suspect it would be VERY expensive to rent a camera that comes with an attitude filter...ghostjmf wrote:I dunno anyone who will loan me one (maybe I do but don't know that I do) but I do (ahem) know a shop that sometimes rents & even loans audio equipment to those whose audio equipment (that would be me) they are fixing.
Perhaps I should aim higher than that $15.00 disposable CVS movie cam. Lotta good it would do me, but still.
Not only did I laugh out loud, I choked on and dribbled twisted frosty right out of my mouth!!!!! LOL!!Estonut wrote:I suspect it would be VERY expensive to rent a camera that comes with an attitude filter...ghostjmf wrote:I dunno anyone who will loan me one (maybe I do but don't know that I do) but I do (ahem) know a shop that sometimes rents & even loans audio equipment to those whose audio equipment (that would be me) they are fixing.

Damn, I was going for the nose...sunflower wrote:Not only did I laugh out loud, I choked on and dribbled twisted frosty right out of my mouth!!!!! LOL!!
I think the oreo chunks were too big for that to happen...so I have to say I'm glad it didn't!!! It's all over my shirt though, that's got to count for something!!Estonut wrote:Damn, I was going for the nose...sunflower wrote:Not only did I laugh out loud, I choked on and dribbled twisted frosty right out of my mouth!!!!! I guess that depends on the person and why they think they were not selected.gsn309 wrote:Okay without getting too personal here and naming names -- I don't see how anyone who's been around here any decent amount of time could REALLY think this is "good news" --- for people who repeatedly have been rejected as contestants after in-person auditions.
Yeah, that might be tough to 'splain at the emergency room!sunflower wrote:I think the oreo chunks were too big for that to happen...so I have to say I'm glad it didn't!!!
Hopefully, it's a laundry day and you'll have to put on the cheerleading outfit. And lb isn't here to hear about it. He'll never sleep again...sunflower wrote:It's all over my shirt though, that's got to count for something!!
Exactly what or who determines whether a person is qualified? I thought if they were an American citizen over the age of 18, they were qualified.jurisdoctor07 wrote:gsn,
And, I'm not sure if this has been mentioned, but there is the risk that a person could google during the online test. So, double threat that an unqualified person could get through.
Most contestants also need to be able to pass the written qualifying test. In the old days, they had to pass a couple of iterations of the phone game.Southpaw Fanny wrote:Exactly what or who determines whether a person is qualified? Poor pea.peacock2121 wrote:If it helps, I do bad video, so if I had 3 less game show experiences, this would not be good for me.
