That phrase always cracks me up. What are they reporting, anyway?
And it makes me think of my grandma. When we used to act up (yes, I know, hard as it is to believe, I occasionally acted up as a youngster), my grandma would tell us that we were "going on report". Or, if we really did it, just that we were "on report".
Is that an Illinoisism or generationalism? Or just a grandmaism?

I am only familiar with the idea of "putting someone on report" from Hogan's Heroes. Anytime someone misbehaved at Stalag 13, Klink was putting them "on report"....
I have never been put on report that I know of. My Dad just used the belt on me and the Beast sisters in the rare instances we caused trouble....

I'm pretty sure that my grandma never watched Hogan's Heroes, so it must be a generational thing, since I suppose the writers were probably about that same age.littlebeast13 wrote:Sisyphean Fan wrote:Da!littlebeast13 wrote:

The Bob Crane case was on American Justice yesterday. I also think Greg Kinnear was really good in Auto Focus. And, hard to believe, Christopher Walken was not as creepy as the real life guy he portrayed.

Christopher Walken is one of those actors who are so good at being creepy that I am not sure I ever want to meet him in person.

Do don't dice up cute critters.
Do you need to take another good look at my avatar? Or maybe I should put in a personal appearance....
Squirrels are the architects of forests, the planters of trees, nature's own acrobats and show a zest for life that can inspire us. Every day should be National Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

Suitguy is not bitter.
feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive
The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.
