This is one of those Euro-techno dance songs from the 80's (along the lines of Dead or Alive). It has no resemblance to the John Lee Hooker song other than having the same title.
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

Arrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!

There are several songs on here that make me cringe, but #3 is easily on my Top 5 most hated songs of all time.

Apparently I don't know the lyrics so well because whenever it was on the radio the words were drowned out by the sound of my retching.

Yuk.

Answers & Points - Lyrically Speaking - 1/16/09

1. When I kissed you, girl, I knew how sweet a kiss could be
(I know how sweet a kiss can be)
Like the summer sunshine pour your sweetness over me
(Pour your sweetness over me)
Sugar Sugar - The Archies (It still tickles me that this was the #1 song of 1969.... 1969!!!! Back in the day when I'd hear this on my parents' oldies station, I'd have guessed it was from no later than the mid-60's....)

2. Cryin' on my pillow
Lonely in my bed
Then I heard a voice beside me
And she softly said
Undercover Angel - Alan O'Day

3. Please don't talk about love tonight.
Your sweet talking won't make it right.
Love and lies just bring me down
When you've got women all over town.
I Love The Nightlife - Alicia Bridges (ACK-Shone!)

4. I can see it in your walk
Tell it when you talk
I can see it in everything you do
Even in your thoughts
You Got It (The Right Stuff) - New Kids on the Block (As much as I hated NKOTB in the day my sisters were infatuated with them, like everything else, time heals all wounds. I really love this song.....)

5. Last night I had this strangest dream
I sailed away to China, in a little rowboat to find ya
And you said you had to get your laundry cleaned
Break My Stride - Matthew Wilder (Don't understand all the hating on this one....)

6. Joggin' in the mornings, go man go
Work up to the hill's top, muscles grow
Macho Man - The Village People

7. My loneliness
Is killing me (and I)
I must confess
I still believe (still believe)
When I'm not with you I lose my mind
Baby One More Time - Britney Spears (Bring on the perky pop! I love it. Had I not had this one in here already, I'd have probably included "Womanizer" since thanks to sunflower's thread I paid enough attention to hear it and like it.....)

8. Zappin' it to ya
The pressure's everywhere
Goin' right through ya
The fever's in the air
Oh yeah, it's there!
Electric Youth - Debbie Gibson (And why all the hating on Debbie/Deborah? I think it's because she had the misfortune of emerging at the same time as Tiffany.... not that I'm hating on Tiffany, but I at least understand why people can't stand her music...)

9. Dirty babe
You see the shackles
Baby I’m your slave
I’ll let you whip me if I misbehave
Sexyback - Justin Timberlake (If this song is within earshot and you don't get the urge to get up and bust a move, it's time to call the morgue.....)

10. Now why would I ever stop doing this?
When others making records that just don't hit
I've toured around the world from London to the Bay
U Can't Touch This - MC Hammer (Despite what Fishie says, there is a lot of unlove for this song.... and Hammer's another "artist" I couldn't stand BITD. But I find this song to be unintentionally funny nowadays...)

11. My motto's always been; when it's right, it's right.
Why wait until the middle of a cold dark night.
When everything's a little clearer in the light of day.
And you know the night is always gonna be there any way
Afternoon Delight - Starland Vocal Band (Another head scratcher. Is it because SVB is the Joe Charboneau of the Best New Artist Grammies? Really, why do people hate this song?)

12. A woman that I know just came from Majorca Spain
She smiled because I did not understand
Then she held out a 10 pound bag of Cocaine
She said it was the best in all the land
The No No Song - Ringo Starr (And yes, written by the legendary Hoyt Axton... which I just happened to notice and get a big kick out of when I was fetching these lyrics.)

13. I used to be a renegade, I used to fool around
But I couldn't take the punishment, and had to settle down
Hip To Be Square - Huey Lewis & the News (This one popped up in Eyegor's TURRDS list [Remember THAT?] of the Top 50 worst songs of all time. As TiV likes to say, hating on Huey Lewis is like kicking a puppy dog.....)

14. You keep coming to me
I can dig your dynamite
Know the way you move
Get in the groove
You're driving me crazy, crazy for you
Boom Boom Boom - Paul Lekakis

15. You can tell the world, you never was my girl
You can burn my clothes up when I'm gone
You can tell your friends just what a fool I've been
And laugh and joke about me on the phone
Achy Breaky Heart - Billy Ray Cyrus (I will give you warning right now..... this song WILL pop up again in a future game. One of the drawbacks of writing up games over a 4 month period is that you tend to forget which songs you've already used. I didn't realize I had a double Billy Ray until after I posted this... and this is the game I'd have removed it from. So just letting you know.....)

JJC Points:

Kay got 3 JJC points, not only for FINALLY playing, but because she cracked me up by trying to convince me that she was young back in the 70's.... and for confusing the wholesome Ringo Star/Hoyt Axton with gangsta rap.....

Mini got 2 JJC points for the ES answer on Sexyback....

Melly got 2 JJC points for using the term "douche-chilling"!

Marley got a JJC point for IHS9....

DaveSenior got 2 JJC points for using Hoyt Axton for The No No Song. Then I took away one of those points for using Bowling For Soup as the artist on Baby One More Time. Bowling For Crap is the Shithouse Rats of the new millennium... as they are known mainly for one song that I absolutely positively can not stand....

KT gets 1 JJC point for overall humor....

Elwood gets a JJC point for the Clem's Cocotte answer... since Sexyback is just SO Kiki.....

I overruled Sister #4 and gave Clem 2 JJC points for his usual attempts at making me laugh....

TBone gets 2 JJC points, one for the HGH answer, and the other for missing I Love the Nightlife.... a song I included mainly because I knew he couldn't stand it... and I love it....

1000aire gets a JJC point for setting civil rights back 45 years.....

First song of theirs I ever heard...LOL My sis sent me a link to the video 'cause she thought I'd get a kick out of it. I did...it became a guilty pleasure.

I kinda gave up completely on them when I realized they do the theme song for "Phineas and Ferb" on the DIsney Channel

But, when we saw them live (right after seeing the Loverboy show...Mike Reno looks like John Goodman these days    ) they DID rock out on that damn Britney song

It apparently became cool to cover that song, as the bands Travis and Fountains of Wayne have recorded a mid-tempo, mellower take on it. FOW's version was released several years ago on a 2-CD set of b-sides and rarities. I like it. Lots.

I also like "1985". which I guess evens out the scale with the whole "I Love the Nightlife" thing with beast.
I like a few songs by Bowling for Soup, especially the ones with funny lyrics. My favorite is this one:

"Girl All The Bad Guys Want"

8 o'clock, Monday night and I'm waitin'
To finally talk to a girl a little cooler than me.
Her name is Nona, she's a rocker with a nose ring,
She wears a two way, but I'm not quite sure what that means.

And when she walks,
All the wind blows and the angels sing.
She doesn't notice me!

Cause she is watchin' wrestling
Creamin' over tough guys
Listenin' to rap metal
Turntables in her eyes

It's like a bad movie
She is lookin' through me
If you were me, then you'd be
Screamin' "Someone shoot me!"
As I fail miserably,
Tryin' to get the girl all the bad guys want.
She's the girl all the bad guys want!

She likes the Godsmack and I like Agent Orange
Her cd changer's full of singers that are mad at their dad
She says she'd like to score some reefer and a forty
She'll never know that I'm the best that she'll never have

And when she walks,
All the wind blows and the angels sing.
She'll never notice me!

Cause she is watchin' wrestling
Creamin' over tough guys
Listenin' to rap metal
Turntables in her eyes

She likes 'em with a mustache
Racetrack season pass
Drivin' in a Trans-Am
Does a mullet make a man?

It's like a bad movie
She is lookin' through me
If you were me, then you'd be
Screamin' "Someone shoot me!"
As I fail miserably,
Tryin' to get the girl all the bad guys want.
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
She's the girl all the bad guys want!

There she goes again
With fishnets on, and dreadlocks in her hair
She broke my heart, I wanna be sedated
All I wanted was to see her naked!

Now I am watchin' wrestling
Tryin' to be a tough guy
Listenin' to rap metal
Turntables in my eyes
I can't grow a mustache
And I ain't got no season pass
All I got's a moped...moped....moped.....

It's like a bad movie
She is lookin' through me
If you were me, then you'd be
Screamin' "Someone shoot me!"
As I fail miserably,
Tryin' to get the girl all the bad guys want.

She's the girl all the bad guys want!
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
(There she goes again)
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
(There she goes again)
She's the girl all the bad guys want!
