I just found out that I am a direct descendent of Robert the Bruce.

Also, I expect Cal actually meant the Robert Bruce who was the grandson of the one I was discussing. He's the one depicted in Braveheart. There were many generations of Robert Bruces. Robert I, King of Scots (11 July 1274 – 7 June 1329) is my 21st great-grand uncle as his wife, Elizabeth de Burgh was the daughter of Richard Óg de Burgh, 2nd Earl of Ulster, my 22nd great-grandfather.
Of course that means he's descended from the previous Robert Bruces as well.
I may not have gone where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I needed to be.

I meant Robert I, King of Scots (in History classes, he is the ONLY one referred to as Robert the Bruce).

I descend from Robert the Bruce and Isabel Mar (that's how it is listed on our family tree at ancestry.com).
I can see now that we were talking past each other because of the variation of Isabel/Isabella. Both versions are used.

I'm a little short on first cousins too. My mother was an only child. My father was his mother's only child. My paternal Grandfather was 55 when my father was born.
