Way cool. Congratulations on the byline. --Bob

You mean the mixed tense in one sentence?

Great article! I wish I had been there.

Made me reconsider my stance that I will never, ever go to one of their concerts.

Great job!

Sounds like you enjoyed the concert.

Did Grant happen to play either of her famous Christmas songs? [Tennessee Christmas or Mary's Song (Breath of Heaven)]

She played both, and the crowd was excited about the first one.

"Breath of Heaven" was the one that was too stage-y and distracting from the rest of the show.

Grant, on the other hand, is more entertaining to watch when the light was dimmed on her side of the stage. She snaps her fingers, dances, sings along and enjoys herself.
I'm sure Skoop actually wrote " Grant, on the other hand, is more entertaining to watch. When the light is dimmed on her side of the stage, she snaps her fingers, dances, sings along and enjoys herself."

Excellent writing Skoop.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

Thanks. I got a big rush out of it.

The restored version is:

Grant, on the other hand, was more entertaining to watch even when the light was dimmed on her side of the stage.

That [even] got deleted, plus I goofed up the tenses. It's all better now, and the print version tomorrow will show that they raised over $35,000 last night.

Turns out this was the only show on the tour that was purely fundraiser, which I guess makes sense that you can't do 12 or 15 shows and not make any money. That's been fixed also. I must have misunderstood something on one of their websites.

I gave Skoop an A+ long ago for illuminating abstruse concepts so that anyone could understand them.

Now she gets an A+ for illuminating an event so that people could feel as if they were there.

It would have been nice if you could have spoken with Gill and Grant. She did a concert in Omaha several years back, and she helped kick-off the Salvation Army's "Tree of Lights" campaign while in town. From the little time that I was around her, she seemed to be one of the nicest people that you ever could meet.

The director of the Rescue Mission came out before the show, and explained what they do (they showed a 10-minute video also). He said he'd told Amy Grant he was thankful for her being there, and she said No, she was grateful for their work.

I'd like to have included that in the review but it was second-hand. It gets cluttery when you say "Mr. X said Amy Grant said X."

i love deadlines
i create them for myself when they neednt exist

congrats on the byline

i am surprised to hear that amy is the better performer, as vince has 10X the talent(he played mandolin on pure prairie leagues "aimee" when he was a teen)

i also liked the illegal tense shift at the end
it is my specialty

Vince Gill does indeed have gobs more talent, but he was his best as a performer when he was sitting down and watching Amy Grant, who enjoyed herself and brought us along for the ride.

He did have some cute schtick. The rescue Mission gave everyone a glow-in-the-dark necklace, which they did not warn the performers about. They kept asking to have the house lights turned off so they could see us in our green and red circlets. Amy said it looked like 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Vince Gill said it looked like a giant game of ring-toss.

He said he grew up wanting to play guitar like Chet Atkins, and his solos were credibly in that neighborhood, both acoustic and electric. I was concerned about his high note, but he is only 51. It'll be there for a while.

Good work, Skoop.

I saw them do a Christmas show like this a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it a lot. Gill has the voice of an angel, and he is a VERY talented instrumentalist, as the Food Monarch has already stated.
