My first deadline work in probably 15 years

"Breath of Heaven" was the one that was too stage-y and distracting from the rest of the show.

That [even] got deleted, plus I goofed up the tenses. It's all better now, and the print version tomorrow will show that they raised over $35,000 last night.
Turns out this was the only show on the tour that was purely fundraiser, which I guess makes sense that you can't do 12 or 15 shows and not make any money. That's been fixed also. I must have misunderstood something on one of their websites.

I gave Skoop an A+ long ago for illuminating abstruse concepts so that anyone could understand them.

It would have been nice if you could have spoken with Gill and Grant. She did a concert in Omaha several years back, and she helped kick-off the Salvation Army's "Tree of Lights" campaign while in town. The director of the Rescue Mission came out before the show, and explained what they do (they showed a 10-minute video also). He said he'd told Amy Grant he was thankful for her being there, and she said No, she was grateful for their work.Appa23 wrote:

I'd like to have included that in the review but it was second-hand. It gets cluttery when you say "Mr. X said Amy Grant said X."

i am surprised to hear that amy is the better performer, as vince has 10X the talent(he played mandolin on pure prairie leagues "aimee" when he was a teen)
i also liked the illegal tense shift at the end

Vince Gill does indeed have gobs more talent, but he was his best as a performer when he was sitting down and watching Amy Grant, who enjoyed herself and brought us along for the ride.BigDrawMan wrote:i love deadlines

He did have some cute schtick. The rescue Mission gave everyone a glow-in-the-dark necklace, which they did not warn the performers about. They kept asking to have the house lights turned off so they could see us in our green and red circlets. Amy said it looked like 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Vince Gill said it looked like a giant game of ring-toss.
He said he grew up wanting to play guitar like Chet Atkins, and his solos were credibly in that neighborhood, both acoustic and electric. I was concerned about his high note, but he is only 51. It'll be there for a while.

I saw them do a Christmas show like this a couple of years ago. I enjoyed it a lot. Gill has the voice of an angel, and he is a VERY talented instrumentalist, as the Food Monarch has already stated.
