This game, for three straight innings, they got a guy to third with 1 out, and couldn't get him home. Three straight times, the batter that came up when they got the runner to third struck out.

I didn't know Philly signed A-Rod for the playoffs. It sounds like they adopted much of this year's Yankee roster as well.

Yeah- I have to admit I don't know what the heck that was in the 2nd inning.

I've never seen the home plate umpire ring someone up, and then appeal it into a walk before.

And then to miss that HBP on Rollins in the 9th. Potentially, the game could have been tied there in the 9th had Danley gotten both calls right.

And I wrote "roaring back" when it looked like the Rays were ready to explode- it was premature, that is true.

Between the floating strike zone -- which went both ways -- and the bogus walk to Baldelli (AFTER calling the pitch strike three THEN asking Fielding Culbreth at first for help which he cannot do AFTER callingithe pitch strike three) and the non-HBP call in the 9th....

When they interviewed Rays' pitcher David Price, he said it didn't hit him, just his uniform.

Actually, as I said in chat the other night, if the Phillies weren't playing, I might be rooting for the Rays because it's such a charming story.

And they said he clearly made the motion for strike three.

The second inning just crystalizes how REALLY crummy the night was for the Phillies.

After a six or seven pitch at-bat, Ryan Howard doubles to lead off the inning. Pat Burrell works a walk, again with a seven or eight pitch at-bat.

Shane Victorino then swings at the first pitch which was at HIS EYES.

The two guys in front of him were making Shields pitch and Victorino swings at the first pitch that wasn't even a good pitch to swing at.

He popped up.

Seriously. TLAF is almost 91 years old. The agita-inducing Phillies are not helping.

Regarding the umpires: For some odd reason, MLB doesn't seem to have ANY umpire accountability.

This isn't just the Phillies' games -- although I see more of them than any other team, of course. I've seen it on the Fox and ESPN games, too.

Ever since Buddy boy, in his infinite wisdom, consolidated the NL and AL umpires (when he got rid of the respective league presidents), the umpiring has been more and more inconsistent. And nothing seems to change.

Ironically, when the umpires' union was Richie Phillips' organization and not the MLB house group it is now, post-season umpires were chosen on their rankings. You're a good ump, you work the post-season. You aren't, you don't.

How interesting it might have been if that were the case now.
