Ok, I just want you all to know that I will make the supreme sacrifice and run for office on behalf of Republicans if they will buy me $150,000 worth of clothes. Half of it has to be spent on shoes.

Yeah me neither. Let's get back to the real issues, no need for this stuff.
Tim, what you have seen is a blatant and obvious intent by me to divert the thread to innocuous blather because, as I have previously stated, I see no need for the other stuff.

:)
Love you Judy. Mwah! :)

I like the way you think, too.

I could use some new Jordans and Timberlands.

And some football jerseys. Adrian Peterson (Vikings) and Devin Hester.

I am curious about the tax ramifications about the wardrobe. Are the clothes a "gift" from the Republican Party and so are they paying "gift taxes" on the items? Are the clothes renumeration for Sarah Palin for the work that she is doing, if so will she get a 1099 at the end of the year and have to pay taxes on the clothes. Is she just borrowing the clothes and do they really belong to the Republican Party.

Guess you didn't read the article. They'd not be renumbering her either. :P

I don't care about the price tag on the wardrobe either. It's their gum, they can chew it however they want.

I will say that a poster here, when she first came aboard, said that she "dresses poorly," and one of my local friends said that she "looks dowdy." They're not saying anything now. JMHO, I think it's in the Reps' best interests to keep her looking sharp. Again, I don't care. It's their gum, etc. etc.

What makes me crazy is that I bet some of the folkses who are blasting away at anybody who has the temerity to bring it up were the first ones to blast away at Edwards for the pricey haircut. Edwards is rich. He should get pricey haircuts. It's his gum, etc. etc. . . .

At least she's stimulating the economy (or is that spreading the wealth)?

If you're a Republican, it's stimulating the economy. If you're a Democrat, it's spreading the wealth.

No, I didn't read the article when I made the post.
The McCain campaign now says the clothing will go to a "charitable purpose" after the campaign.
That's nice. I hope that the clothes are donated to a women's shelter or the Dress For Success charity.

Just got around to reading today's transcript. I would have really been impressed if TheConfessor posted it one hour earlier - he has this remarkable talent of anticipating trivia questions - and this would have been the icing on that cake!

Actually it might be much more helpful to put the clothes up for auction (on eBay?) and donating the money to such charities. I am completely serious.

3 cheers for - 'Dress For Success' - a charity that I will never forget about.

I think that's what they'll do. If they're serious about getting some money to charity, which I think they are.

True, the collectors value for these outfits would be quite high.

And the governor already knows how to use eBay!

But they didn't sell the plane on eBay. None of the bids were high enough.

So this time she should list her outfits without a reserve price.

Americans do not begrudge the men's custom-made suits. When Barack Obama went on a shopping spree with Hart Schaffner Marx before his nomination acceptance speech in Denver, few people blinked over his new $1,500 suit. He has even gone on to buy a couple more. But it was also conveniently revealed that Hart Schaffner Marx is an American label that manufactures its tailored clothing in Des Plaines, Ill. John McCain's $520 Ferragamo shoes aren't that big of a deal either, despite what his critics had to say.

And who could forget the gush-fest Michelle Obama unleashed when she wore a $148 Donna Ricco dress on "The View" and told the audience, "You put a little pin on it and you've got something going on." That little moment overshadowed all the thousand-dollar designer ensembles featuring Thakoon, Isabel Toledo and others that she has worn. One dress was worth a hundred overpaid image consultants, political advisers and spinmeisters.

Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

If I recall correctly, didn't Bill Clinton donate his underwear to some charity and then write it off for some highly inflated amount?

IMO the flap is less about how much it cost as who paid for it. For me, it brought up an image of someone in the RNC circling Palin with a frown, saying "No, that won't do", and calling in some makeover artistes.

Surely the governor of Alaska has clothing of her own that is sufficiently presentable for public occasions in the Lower 48. If you really want to promote yourself as a "Joe SixPack", maybe let people know that you've appeared in front of the state legislature in a "Chez Target" special?
