Bad Night At Work

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Sat Oct 11, 2008 7:04 am

I won't go into why it all sucked other than to say it was the usual BS and frustration that tends to accompany weekend nights, especially when our regular manager isn't there and the dumbass second in command is in charge....

But I did want to talk about one of the dilemmas I sometimes face in my line of work. Sometimes I have to put stuff out for sale even though the product itself horrfies me. Tonight, being the bad night it was, I wound up also having to stock Sporting Goods..... an area I've unfortunately seemed to picked up as a tertiary (did I spell that right?) area after Lawn & Garden/Christmas, and of course my pride & joy Chemicals. However, in all the times I had stocked over there in the past, I never had to put up what wound up coming in tonight.

I was putting up a case of little hanging packages of Crossman 290 ct. pointed pellets for use in one of the certain kinds of guns we sell. I'd already put half of the case up before my eye caught the little silhouetted figure located in the upper right corner of the package. As I typically have the last few months, when I saw what it was, I cracked a bit of a smile...... until it then hit me the purpose of that little figure on the package. If you haven't guessed by now, the silhouetted figure was most definitely that of a squirrel.... as in "Hey you rednecks! Guess what you can use these 290 little pointed pellets in this package on!!!" I was crushed. I didn't want to put up the last couple packages.... but I figured my job was worth more than a couple of ES's cute little bushy tailed friends........

BTW, I went to try to find a picture on the internet of the package..... and on the first frickin' page that came up on Google, there's a poor little squirrel laying on his back with a hole the size of one of those pellets in its belly......

Believe it or not, I actually feel badly for you. I hope tonight is a much better night. Poor little squirrel. Why do people squirrel hunt anyway? Surely not to eat them???

Our guests stayed up until 1AM, I was up until 1:30 cleaning up and back up at 7AM this morning getting stuff ready for breakfast. I think it may be an early night for me tonight, although they're staying tonight as well. Hope they're as tired as I am.

I hate it when those idiots who fancy themselves as the Great White Hunter (by taking a gun or a bow and arrow to defenseless creatures that are smaller than a breadbox) show up on Judge Judy.

There was a similar case here several years ago where an unrepentant jackass took a bow and arrow to a cat. I had to sit on the bench with the judge for that one and it was horrible, so I also understand having to do unsavoury things for your job.

This is outrageous!

There should never, ever be pointy holes made in squirrels that aren't the result of pointy teeth in the mouths of big dogs.

And I firmly believe there should never be pointy holes made in dogs that aren't the result of the pointy teeth in the mouths of those snakes I see slithering in your yard all the time....

Many of these (squirrel) migrations were probably caused by food shortages as well as habitat overcrowding. We solved that for them. We not only reduced their habitat, we reduced the whole species by about 90%. The least we can do now is share a little birdseed with them.

So, I guess it would be tacky of me to mention that the instructors in my motorcycle safety course refer to squirrels as "squishables"? They implied that a cycle rider is safer running over the little dickens than trying to dodge 'em.

I guess squirrels should just stay in the trees and out of the roads, eh?

I'm sure this travesty in the Rules of the Road will garner a response from my brother Evel....

Well who were those road squirrels in the Geico commercials?

I wasn't a judge's clerk. In the case above, I was clerking for a judge for a few months before he retired (none of the regular clerks suited him, so I got called into duty, ha!).
