Danger: Beware of Falling Cows
Nov 6 02:27 PM US/Eastern
MANSON, Wash. (AP) - Charles and Linda Everson were driving back to their hotel when their minivan was struck by a falling object—a 600-pound cow.

The Eversons were unhurt but the cow, which had fallen off a cliff, had to be euthanized.

The year-old cow fell about 200 feet from the cliff and landed on the hood of the couple's minivan, causing heavy damage.

A Chelan County fire chief, Arnold Baker, said the couple missed being killed by a matter of inches in the accident Sunday on a highway near Manson.

The Eversons, visiting the area from their home in Westland, Mich., to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, were checked at Lake Chelan Community Hospital as a precaution.

Everson, 49, said he didn't see the cow falling and didn't know what happened until afterward.

He said he kept repeating: "I don't believe this. I don't believe this."

I think I would be saying "Holy crap, holy crap, holy crap."

Then I would just be laughing and laughing - that kind of laugh that comes from nerves and not knowing how else to react.

My insurance company was dubious about the power pole until they saw the photographs. The agent called me to reduce the deductible, which was less for "a falling object" than a collision.

It's all a terrorist plot, you know. We had that story of the incendiary suicide squirrel setting a car on fire a couple week ago, now it's suicide cow bombers.

Hmmmm.... I thought a deductible was a deductible, regardless of how the damage was caused.

Speaking of vermin, where's my old friend the Rat? I haven't seen him since they kicked all his buddies out of that KFC...

I was surprised, too, but I was happy to not lose any more money than necessary.

And that your agent is the one who told you - I'd keep that agent for a very long time.

I should send the agent the photo I'm using as my avatar and tell him about the giant spud that fell on my red truck.

Mr. Hamster
I don't know any rats. I only associate with viruses or bacteria, not their means of transportation.

Fetchez la vache!

Were there any persons with outrageous accents around, or perhaps some filthy English keniggets?
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Update:

Local farmer A. Carlson confessed to his role in the incident. Apparently it was part of the Chelan County "Beef Bonanza Festival" Celebration. Mr. Carlson was quoted as saying "As God is my witness, I thought cows could fly".

Insurance lesson:

Comprehensive covers damage "other than collision" i.e. falling objects, vandalism, theft, flood, hail, you get the picture.

Collision is a completely different coverage. Depending on the individual policy, the deductible might be the same or it might be different. You can have comprehensive with NO deductible. You cannot have collision coverage with NO deductible. Obviously, SC has two different deductibles on her comprehensive & collision coverage.

SC did not collide with the pole, the pole fell on her car. It was a comprehensive loss. There was no way the agent could have charged her a higher deductible once the cause of the loss was determined. He was simply doing his job. Sadly, most people hit the pole, not vice versa.

Prolly TMI ....part of that "ask a simple question" syndrome" we have around here. :D

Well, I think it's a good thing that most poles aren't as aggressive as the one that hit SC.

We've got enough trouble with the evil squirrels and suicide cow bombers.
