American Airlines

#1 Post by PlacentiaSoccerMom » Tue May 27, 2008 12:02 pm

Jeff was scheduled to go to Washington DC today and I dropped him off at the airport.

While ordering a cake at Sam's Club, I got a phone call from him telling me that his flight was cancelled and asking me to go home and make new reservations.

The airline made no attempt to contact him or anything.

Great customer service.

Did he pay American's new add-on Customer Service charge? If not, then he should not expect any.

No.

I talked to a human being to change his reservation and they didn't charge me anything.

Apparently large storms are going through Dallas this afternoon.

Delta both e-mailed me and called me when my flight was cancelled. They also rebooked me.

Very nice!

Jeff just called and said that many people from his original flight are still in line trying to get new flights. (The flight was supposed to leave two hours ago.)

Was it cancelled when he was at the airport; within half an hour of the flight? If so they wouldn't call anyone.

The airlines I use have automated text messaging options.

It would be interesting to see why the flight was cancelled.

I was on a Continental flight a while back and we were delayed because they needed to add weight to the cargo hold (not enough people checked luggage). I wonder how that will affect American.

They said it was because of weather in Dallas.

Air Travel in general is getting less and less appealing.
I felt the change

His plane actually is leaving the gate. It's late, but apparently all of the flights out of Dallas are late, so he will make his connection.

If they can say it's weather related, they don't have to do anything above and beyond to help you get to your destination.

It seems to be weather quite often.

Always keep the airline's number in your cell phone...rebooking tends to be easier over the phone when there are lots of people trying to rebook their flights.

I hate the airlines for always using weather as an excuse...but sometimes there is bad weather. I speak from experience after spending 8 hours at O'Hare airport and missing a baseball game in WA that was the main purpose of my whole trip. But what can you do, I'm also glad I wasn't on a plane that got struck down during a lightning storm.

It was probably easy for me to redo his flight. He had wait in line to get his bags and he couldn't hear his phone with all of the noise.

I second this motion.

And it wasn't that appealing to being with.

Not that I'm looking to defend American Airlines or anything, but I can personally vouch for the weather in Dallas yesterday afternoon, as I had to drive to work (I work afternoons these days) in a deluge.

I would have gotten to work faster if I had brought oars and rowed.
