Maybe there would be more election voters if they were allowed to vote multiple times as with AI.

Back when Dante Bichette was with the Rockies, there used to be a daily game on one of the morning radio shows called "How many balls on Dante?"

They'd play a tape of the announcer calling an at bat where he kept saying "there's one ball on Bichette" "Dante's got three balls on him" "and that's four balls on Dante!", etc. The caller had to guess which segment they were going to play, i.e. how many balls were on Dante that day.

It was more entertaining that it sounds. Really!

Although I don't know if it would actually work, because people like to be where the action/traffic is, and where they think their works of art have a better chance to be read.

Personally, I think it's not much of an issue, as it's much easier to skip over in threaded format. Instead of posts and posts and posts to have to look at the subject to find the non-political ones sandwiched in, you just see three or four topics that you figure are political stuff that's all been said 58068433 times, and move on.

This doesn't address the 'on topicness' of game shows, though. If it was just game shows, there would probably be about 4 posts per day (and three of them would be Marley bitching about actors who live in NYC). Maybe a dozen or so when there are new BAM episodes.
I came back from vacation and skipped all the threads about politics and Olympics. It's doable, even by a nincompoop such as I...
This is why we created the Moratorium Lounge. It's not necessary to leave the Bored or ask the political debaters to take their comments elsewhere. Just don't take part in the ranting. And if you open a thread that has unexpected political discussions in it, skim over it while going "La, la, la, I can't hear you!"

Meanwhile, a few of us will still be discussing our forlorn hope about a certain game show. :|

I found this place because of a game show. And it's all done without moderators scrutinizing every phrase or locking/deleting posts as you see on other message boards. We may occasionally offend or piss off each other, but that's bound to happen from time to time if people are being themselves rather than walking on eggshells.

I like that.

And besides, sometimes the best trivia is gleaned from conversations that have nothing to do with trivia or gameshows on the surface. I keep waiting for the day when a MAWG comes back from a BAM taping and says, "...and the only reason I knew the answer to my million dollar question was because of that day when we were talking about...."

That would really rock.

I'm glad he came back, we would never have met otherwise. I was Dave's guest for lunch at a Denver sports bar owned by a retired Broncos player where Dave played NTN sometimes. In the old days, it would probably have been known as a "three-martini lunch," we were there about two hours. He graduated from Fort Lewis College also, and we had a great time comparing notes. I'm pretty sure he's older than I am, but he landed in college somewhat after I did, taking a detour after high school through the U.S. armed forces and a couple of jobs.

People will surprise you, and I hope that Dave was surprised a little, as I was, and pleasantly so.

Pea said that, unfortunately not at the million dollar level. I think it was 32K or 64K -- she knew the answer she needed because of conversation she had with a BB, I think in person though.

And you call us nuts?

Exactly the sort of word-twisting post that I decry! I think ridiculously partisan political discourse is nonsense. Serious political discourse is valuable and important.
Slam, there is no possibility for word twisting here:

Now that I've made my political post of the day, I would add that it's been seven years since I joined this Bored. Originally, I did so to get advice on how best to get on the show.

I'm a member of other boards, like the Cruise Critic board, where I got similar advice about booking my various cruises. The Cruise Critic board is a great way to get advice about getting deals on cruises, places to see, trustworthy excursions, and the advantages or disadvantages of various cruise lines. If you are planning on taking a cruise, I strongly recommend checking it out.

However, other than to make an obligatory post about my most recent cruise experience for the education of others, I haven't been back on there since I got back in town. That board and the people who post there have no interest whatsoever for me other than as a conduit of information about a highly specialized topic. When they do get into off topic discussions, such as about fuel prices (which have a direct impact on the cost of cruises), every other post involves someone saying "this is a cruise board, not a political board," and the discussion dies down very quickly. I've made less than 50 posts there in over three and a half years on that board.

There are a few people for whom cruising is a life's passion and they spend huge amounts of time on that board. But you read their posts and learn nothing about them other than their cruise line and destination preferences. There's almost never a political post, never a sports post (other than to ask if footaball games are televised on board), never a religious post, never a post about good or bad personal experiences.

That's what this board offers that the others don't. We are a community of a few hundred people in all parts of the country who originally came together out of a love of one thing but who stayed together since then. We are a family of sorts, with some cranky aunts and uncles, a few wackos (not me, of course), but who stay together through good times and bad, through ups and downs.

The political posts (and the sports and movie and personal and religous posts) don't distract from this Bored. They are this Bored.

There is room here for discussions on many different subjects. Way back, In The Beginning, The Bored used to contain threads that mostly dealt with the BAM phenomenon. We all had aspirations to get on the show and you never saw such a flurry of posting as when The Phone Game was at its zenith. The flurry continued through the first couple of years of auditions. During The Early Years many friendships were formed and gatherings, dinners and other such "mini-fests" were held were we got to actually meet one another and enjoy each other's company face to face. Over the last couple of years, since many of our crowd had already been on the show and had left the friendly confines of The Bored, discussions have drifted away from conversations regarding game shows. Sure, there are several hard-core gamers here but many of us just like the conversation and cameraderie with friends we have known for all these years.
You people on the right, left, top or bottom are all bonkers with ridiculously slanted viewpoints. I have no interest in such nonsense.
Then, it's quite simple, don't post in those threads.
Please page me when when the discussion returns to game shows.
Over and out.
We are not here for this purpose. Post (or don't post) at your own discretion.

That is all.

Its all Jazzmans fault!!! he started these types of discussions over 10 years ago.....and I bet we know who he's voting for!!!

It doesn't take me any time to catch up on posts during elections. I can usually tell by who started the thread whether to even bother to open it or not.

That's the reason I'm behind LB in posts. I can't add to stuff I don't read.
I'll do my catching up later today.
