My concern is being trapped in bottom-of-the-pile limbo. If I have a good audition and get the happy card, there isn't much window for me this season. (I agree that if they really, really want me, they'll call back, but given my demographics and past track record, I have little expectation I'll fall into that category. Then I'd have a stale but not expired happy card during the 2009 season, and we've all seen how frequently those mature into The Call. On top of this, Las Vegas is far enough away that it would require significant effort. If I were going to be in New York during audition season anyway (other than a brief stopover for a funeral), I'd do it, and if the traveling audition were closer, I'd do it, but given the combination of significant inconvenience and possibility of shooting myself in the foot, I remain inclined to wait for next year. --Bob

Does anybody know approximately how many people show up for these cattle calls? Do they tend to last all day and they see thousands or is it more like a few hours and they see hundreds? Just curious as I like to try and draw whatever inferences I can from such information (as most of you can tell by now).

I remember that the Las Vegas audition I attended had a couple thousand. It was at a car dealership east of the strip. I believe it was in August and we stood outside. But we were cooled off by an intense downpour. Of course we also had to dodge the lightning. I believe that as long as I pass the written test next Friday, I will be home free for getting on the show. Considering that I was in my high school production of "Cats" and I have written many Christian rap songs for my churches over the last year-and-a-half, I will achieve pure What Else?® status in the eyes of TPTB. I'm not from Where Else?, I'm not a MAWG, and I don't have many blue shirts, but I sure have the necessary What Else? credentials.
