The one year anniversary of your appearance on Crosswords is so close to the beginning of the season that it's just not a big deal. There's a spot on the forms to indicate if and when you've been on a TV game show. If they want you on WWTBAM, I'm sure they can handle it from there.
The issue isn't Millionaire's air dates. The Official Rules say that if I receive the qualifying call less than a year after my appearance, I'm not eligible. That means, since I'm an out-of-town contestant, that I can't tape until approximately three weeks after my anniversary date, and there aren't that many taping dates remaining this season after that date.

My concern is being trapped in bottom-of-the-pile limbo. If I have a good audition and get the happy card, there isn't much window for me this season. (I agree that if they really, really want me, they'll call back, but given my demographics and past track record, I have little expectation I'll fall into that category. It's certainly not the way to bet.)

Then I'd have a stale but not expired happy card during the 2009 season, and we've all seen how frequently those mature into The Call. On top of this, Las Vegas is far enough away that it would require significant effort. If I were going to be in New York during audition season anyway (other than a brief stopover for a funeral), I'd do it, and if the traveling audition were closer, I'd do it, but given the combination of significant inconvenience and possibility of shooting myself in the foot, I remain inclined to wait for next year. --Bob

Yes, Mr. Nelly. I am well over 18 in dog years. In dog years, I'm a MABG.

Detroit, huh?

Can you make a road trip to the eastern side of your state, Kazoo? TPTB are not going to come closer than this!

Just do it!

And STILL no Boston on the horizon! Grrrr. Good thing I do the company's travel audits.

No excuse, TPTB. DC is a day-trip commuting distance, too, thanks to Amtrak's Northeast Corridor trains. If you can go there, you can come here.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Does anybody know approximately how many people show up for these cattle calls? Do they tend to last all day and they see thousands or is it more like a few hours and they see hundreds? Just curious as I like to try and draw whatever inferences I can from such information (as most of you can tell by now).

They see thousands in about four or five hours.

Thanks. I'm guessing 1 to 3 thousand and not 5 to 10 thousand?

The news casts here estimate that Chicago gets about 10,000 for BAM. At DoND there were over 10,000. I got in line 3 hours before the audtitions started and I was over 4000 in line. It took me over 8 hours of standing in line and my audition was less than a minute.

I remember that the Las Vegas audition I attended had a couple thousand. It was at a car dealership east of the strip. I believe it was in August and we stood outside. But we were cooled off by an intense downpour. Of course we also had to dodge the lightning. Sir G stopped by to say hi and kt's NTN team was there too.

The Sacramento audition got a brief plug in this column:

http://folsomtelegraph.com/detail/86854.html
‘Millionaire’ auditions at Jackson Rancheria

Auditions for “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” will be held 7-11 a.m. June 23 in the Grand Oak Ballroom at Jackson Rancheria Casino and Hotel, 12222 New York Ranch Road, in Jackson. Participants must bring a photo ID. For more information, visit millionairetv.com.
Of course, the rodeo got top billing in the column, but they're having a cattle drive and everything!

Here's another plug for the Sacramento audition.

"(We're) really just looking for good trivia players who are going to have fun on the show," said producer Jennifer Weeks.

I believe that as long as I pass the written test next Friday, I will be home free for getting on the show. Considering that I was in my high school production of "Cats" and I have written many Christian rap songs for my churches over the last year-and-a-half, I will achieve pure What Else?® status in the eyes of TPTB. I'm not from Where Else?, I'm not a MAWG, and I don't have many blue shirts, but I sure have the necessary What Else? credentials.

A 35-minute drive from my motel room. I'm surprised that the audition would take place that far from downtown ATL. Looks like I'll have to get up a half-hour earlier than I expected.

But with Discover Mills Mall being right next to Medieval Times, I'll at least have something to do between the test and the possible interview(s).

is it too late to switch hotels? You might get a break from them, even if you prepaid, as long as you stay in the same chain...

I could, but I'm not gonna get a deal better than $41/night at any motel closer to Lawrenceville.
