That's why I like you Ms. Mini. Also, you advocate for better LS songs for the young so I owe you for that...minimetoo26 wrote:clem sez:

As if! I've read all the books a gazillion times, plus I have the ancillary stuff she wrote. You just reminded me I bought three copies of Beedle the Bard at Christmastime, saving one for myself. I think I'll bring it to read on the plane this weekend, soto you, youngster.

And I just realized two things 1) It's very good I learned how to act cool before high school and 2) I hope Sprots reads the Harry Potter part b/c no one else is going to understand it.
LOL! I was going to reply to this that I could guarantee I wasn't the only one who would understand the HP part, then I had the good sense to finish the thread.
Well done, Mini! Santa brought me Tales of Beedle the Bard for Christmas too.

They have videos from midnight-ish to 8 am! That's my fave viewing time for Vh1. We were playing Yahtzee at my mom's house Saturday night and she let us turn the tv on to Fuse, so we got to listen to tunes while we played. But she kept threatening to make us turn it off and put on her Garth Brooks cd!clem21 wrote:Old people watch Vh1? Who knew? MERCY- DUFFY, One of the top songs on my iPod and it still took me a while to get this. I'm pretty darn sure I'll be one of one or two to hit this one 'cuz this wasn't played on the radio a ton that I know of (though I stick primarily to my iPod nowadays) so where the heck would anyone not into today's music have heard it. This was a good pick LB, a little Alternative. I'm feeling it and can we do the years thing again? A lot? Please? I felt so good about myself looking at today's list.....For one day I can compete at this game. Estoy Contento.
You flatter yourself, sir. Old people watch Vh1 and, when this first came out ,it was a You Oughta Know Artist and they played this damned thing INCESSANTLY!
Luckily, disaster was averted. Because nobody wanted that. Nothing can kill a Yahtzee buzz quicker than Garth Brooks. Ha!
We, the HK Brigade, do hereby salute you, Marley, for your steadfast devotion to ontopicosity. Well done, sir!

Just as sure as the wind's gonna blow now
The men'll come and the men are gonna go now
Before you tell 'em that you love 'em so now
Shop Around - Smokey Robinson & the Miracles (I also accepted Captain & Tenille, you didn't have to get the artist from that particular year to get credit, just as long as it satisfied my ambigous and vague rules about what artists I'll accept....)
2. (1963) I'm gonna drink a lotta coffee, spend a little cash

Bloody Well Right - Supertramp (Speaking of the Captain, I coulda went with "Love Will Keep Us Together" for this one since it was the #1 song on the day I was born, but I spared you all...)
7. (1978) I held her close until the storm passed

Ordinary World - Duran Duran (Someone needs to get Clem a few of Duran Duran's albums from the 80's. Their stuff in the 90's was mediocre, but they flat out kicked ass in the 1980's. I highly recommend "Rio" and "Seven and the Ragged Tiger"....)

Without Me - Eminem (This song was played incessantly in the late Spring of 2002 after the release of The Eminem Show.... but it's just too hilarious and I love the fast paced rhymin'. I even parodied this song as Wierd Al way back in June 2002 after it came out, dedicating it to Booch....)
16. (2005) Is ya man on the floor?

Mercy - Duffy (This was played during BP of just about every Cardinals game I was at this year. Why do we seem to be the only park in Major League Baseball that plays nothing but new music during BP? It's been like that since the late 90's. I gotta go to KC or Cincy or Milwaukee just to hear some decent BP music.... well, OK, not necessarily this song. I do like it, which is why I included it....)
JJC Points:
Melo got a JJC humor point...
Mini got a JJC point for her vague answer on #13, a snippet I picked specifically because it had the word vague in it....
Sammy & the Sleazebuckets was good enough for 2 JJC point for TBone...
Clem got 3 JJC points, until he insulted Duran Duran, so he'll have to live with just 2....
Kay got a JJC point for her great act of disbelief at the lyrics to #15 and 16 (Like she doesn't listen to songs like that all the time), and for her answer to #17....
Panic gets a JJC point for the "title" to #15. I don't know if that was a blind guess of Eminem or if you knew it, but I thought it was funny....
Since I didn't give out many JJC points in this game, Estonut gets a JJC point so he can feel the "lurve".....

I remember the Nam/Bowling reference from last year's LS (Or maybe it was something else, but I didn't miss it, just didn't get the point of it there, probably because I don't know where you pulled it from since I'm so dense!)....
Mac Davis is hardly JJ Cale or Hoyt Axton. I've actually heard of him....
I already gave you a JJC for confusing Longest Time and Keeping the Faith in the previous game.

You've never seen The Big Lebowski aka The Greatest Movie of All Time??? Dude! I don't think I used the 'Nam/bowling quote in an LS, but it was a signature on one of my IDs for a while. Jimmy Dale Gilmore was Smokey! He's also a musician and seriously the only name I could think of for Sugar Shack (Jimmy Gilmer, duh!).littlebeast13 wrote:WheresFanny wrote:I guess you didn't get my reference in #1.

You'd never heard of Hoyt Axton??? I'm following my rule for writers. I only put them down if I think of it as "their" song. To me, In the Ghetto is a Mac Davis song. (Although, like Tbone, I can't think of it without hearing Cartman singing it in my head.)
PS I'm obviously not arguing for JJCP, I'm just talking to hear my head rattle. Ha!

I know you put down who you associate with each song, and I have come to accept that. I do have to admit I wasn't aware Mac Davis did "In the Ghetto", but I didn't deem it JJCP worthy newfound knowledge. And I thought I said at the time I'd never heard of Hoyt Axton. Seriously, no clue he even existed... ala Mr. Cale.
And now that I have looked up JDG, I see he was in The Big Lebowski, which i assume is where the quote comes from (No, I haven't seen the movie, but I knew it was about bowling, and it would've been my first guess if that quote were on a quiz)....

Jimmy Dale Gilmore was Smokey! He's also a musician and seriously the only name I could think of for Sugar Shack (Jimmy Gilmer, duh!).
You'd never heard of Hoyt Axton??? I'm following my rule for writers. I only put them down if I think of it as "their" song. To me, In the Ghetto is a Mac Davis song. (Although, like Tbone, I think of it without hearing Cartman singing it in my head.)
I invoke the Anti-Elvis Rule: If anybody else could have possible done it, then it's not an Elvis song, dammit!
Knowing a great deal is not the same as being smart; intelligence is not information alone but also judgment, the manner in which information is collected and used.
