The political posts (and the sports and movie and personal and religous posts) don't distract from this Bored. They are this Bored.
Well said.

So you're one of the cranky uncles? :P

Nonsense is what drives this place.

Top and bottom political parties could liven things up though.

LOL!

Flock made me laugh out loud!

There was a time when I thought Flock was LFHP.

Please page me when when the discussion returns to game shows.

Over and out.

How boring would this place be if we all tiptoed around each other, too polite to say what's really on our minds? Dull and fake, if you ask me.

I found this place because of a game show. I stayed and continue to come back because the people here are nice and have opinions and are able (for the most part) to share and discuss them as adults do. And it's all done without moderators scrutinizing every phrase or locking/deleting posts as you see on other message boards. We may occasionally offend or piss off each other, but that's bound to happen from time to time if people are being themselves rather than walking on eggshells.

I like that.

And besides, sometimes the best trivia is gleaned from conversations that have nothing to do with trivia or gameshows on the surface. I keep waiting for the day when a MAWG comes back from a BAM taping and says, "...and the only reason I knew the answer to my million dollar question was because of that day when we were talking about...."

That would really rock.
Pea said that, unfortunately not at the million dollar level. I think it was 32K or 64K -- she knew the answer she needed because of conversation she had with a BB, I think in person though.
Ahem.

Not in person, since I've never had the pleasure of meeting the redoubtable Peahen F2F. But the question was about Breaking Away, the movie filmed during my freshman year at Indiana University, and I had bragged about it at some point (hard to believe, I know), and she remembered it.

My only shout-out on the show, although I do still have the successful PAF for Barbarella to fall back on.

That was it! Thanks for identifying yourself! Otherwise she never woulda got it! Or would have had to burn a lifeline.

I remembered wrong when I thought it was a face to face conversation. Don't worry, Pea never woulda said that.

Even though it wasn't the million, it really rocked, as Fly said.

I guess that's better than the unfortunate guy who went to the doctor because of his swollen gonads. The doctor thoroughly checked him out and wrote down his findings on the patient chart. He said, "I've never seen anything like this. You weigh 200 pounds, and your testicles weigh 100 pounds. I can't help you. I'll have to refer you to a psychiatrist. You're half nuts!"

It wouldn't work. Some of the comments directed at Palin would never pass muster under the Fool's Terms of Service. Nor should they.

There are a great many reasons (in my not-so-humble opinion) to vote for Obama-Biden over McCain-Palin. The sexist commentary directed at her distracts from those reasons, showers discredit on Obama and his supporters (including me), and cheapens political discourse. I wish it would stop, and it's not welcome on my Bored at the Fool.

I'm fairly sure, shinycar, that you weren't suggesting that I do find such distasteful remarks acceptable. But I wanted to be sure that my position on this issue was crystal clear. --Bob

There is room here for discussions on many different subjects. Way back, In The Beginning, The Bored used to contain threads that mostly dealt with the BAM phenomenon. We all had aspirations to get on the show and you never saw such a flurry of posting as when The Phone Game was at its zenith. The flurry continued through the first couple of years of auditions. During The Early Years many friendships were formed and gatherings, dinners and other such "mini-fests" were held were we got to actually meet one another and enjoy each other's company face to face. Over the last couple of years, since many of our crowd had already been on the show and had left the friendly confines of The Bored, discussions have drifted away from conversations regarding game shows. Sure, there are several hard-core gamers here but many of us just like the conversation and cameraderie with friends we have known for all these years.
Exactly, SirG. Exactly. The only reason I come here is because I have friends here. I don't get involved in or even read political threads as a rule (not because I don't have opinions, but I prefer to keep my blood pressure at a reasonable level). Frankly, I never seem to find a candidate worth working up a sweat defending or praising anyway. If I could Frankenstein all of the candidates (picking this about McCain, that about Obama, this about Hilary, etc.), I'd have my candidate.

I also don't feel it's worth working up a sweat analyzing every minute of a game show that doesn't have any use for me anymore. It's not even the same show that initially jazzed me. The qualities that made it unique are mostly gone. And they ain't comin' back. I'm not committing to saying I'll never audition again (for instance, if they ever have a rock-n-roll week), but I won't jump through hoops or be someone I am not in order to be their "ideal contestant". I think I'd be a pretty good character for them, but if they don't agree, then so be it. I'm more concerned that my family and friends love and respect me than several twentysomething showbiz decision makers. Nonetheless, I applaud those who persist and I root for their dream to be realized..it's just not for me anymore.

Nope, I come here because there are people here who make me laugh. And Lord knows I can use all the laughs I can get. People who host fun games that keep me occupied. Who make me feel like I am part of a big family. And at big family gatherings there are always going to be a couple of relatives who start arguing over politics or sports or something. I just do what I usually do at such gatherings..ignore 'em. I care about the lives of the people on this bored. This bored has gone way beyond an over-the-hill game show. This bored is about our lives..the lives of our cyber family. I dare say this bored will well outlive WWTBAM. Slam, I'm sure if you want to talk game shows, you will find folks to converse with. But if you expect this bored to be limited to that topic only (not saying you do, but IF...), well, I'm afraid that it's too late for that. We've been a family for quite some time now.

We'll keep a place set at the table for you, just in case...

I'm glad he came back, we would never have met otherwise. I was Dave's guest for lunch at a Denver sports bar owned by a retired Broncos player where Dave played NTN sometimes. In the old days, it would probably have been known as a "three-martini lunch," we were there about two hours. He graduated from Fort Lewis College also, and we had a great time comparing notes. I'm pretty sure he's older than I am, but he landed in college somewhat after I did, taking a detour after high school through the U.S. armed forces and a couple of jobs.

People will surprise you, and I hope that Dave was surprised a little, as I was, and pleasantly so.
Eyegor's Avatar clue notwithstanding, I still don't know his other handle. Did we have somebody named Roxbury here??

roxley

He was a player in The Thread That Wouldn't Die in June 2001.....

And I believe someone already named him, but the new alias for dxp was palerider1980....

I appreciate the place being set. Thanks.

I think my post has been misconstrued. I certainly have some awareness of the nature of this board. I read posts that interest me and usually ignore the ones that don't. Usually, I'm most interested in the game show discussions. That's just my preference though I do participate in some other discussions, too.

But, from my point of view, the problem with MANY of the political posts here (on both sides of the political spectrum) is that they leave logic and common sense behind. They just twist words endlessly and don't engage in any serious political conversation. I'm not interested in that. (hence, the hyperbole of "you are all nuts") And of course, I understand that that is what happens in real politics all the time. Twist words enough, lie blatantly enough often enough, and suddenly you've defined the new reality. I was just expecting a higher level of discourse around here. My bad.

You were not here 4 years ago.

It was much worse then. It ran from the invasion of Iraq all the way up until a week after the '04 election, and was much more bitter. Trust me on this.....

Speaking of nuts, Emma and I love almonds.

I used to buy cinnamon covered almonds at our local farmer's market, but I discoved Emerald Cinnamon Almonds and they are really good. We also tried Emerald's Vanilla Almonds and they are even better.
