I do not add sugar to cereals. Never have. We grew up on corn flakes and store-brand Cheerios, which to be sure probably have some sugar in them, but to add sugar to them was never an option.
I am a big fan now of Special K Protein Plus, which does have some sweetener on it but the protein and fiber are a good tradeoff.
Dub always claims he wants the leftover milk but then he turns up his nose at it, so I don't leave him any, anymore. Most cats are lactose intolerant anyway, and get the runs.
Raisin Bran and Frosted Flakes are treats for me. Once in a great while we would get a pack of serving-sized cereals on a road trip, and pour milk in the box and eat them. Those included Fruit Loops and other icky sugared cereals. I always grabbed the Raisin Bran, which was too expensive to have regularly at home.
I did discover recently there's a difference between store brand Cheerios and the name-brand kind, or at least the name-brand honey-flavored Cheerios are yum and the store brand plain ones are not. But they are good to eat dry as a snack at work, and all that oat bran is way good for you.

Were any of the people in those McD's commercials actual Olympic athletes? I thought they were actors who were meant to represent Olympic athletes.peacock2121 wrote:The olympians were/are also promoting McDonalds for healthy eating. Something about chicken for breakfast.

A tsp of sugar is 4 grams of sugar and 16 calories. A serving of corn flakes with 3 teaspoons (a tablespoon) of sugar is remarkably similar to a serving of frosted flakes.BackInTex wrote:Again, as eaten, most Corn Flakes get a tsp of sugar added (as do Wheaties).andrewjackson wrote:They are different. I figured cereal servings are cereal servings.peacock2121 wrote: I suspect the serving size is different for those facts.
Are they?
The Wheaties and Corn Flakes info is for a 1 Cup serving.
Frosted Flakes is for 3/4 of a Cup.
Why would anyone eat a smaller serving of Frosted Flakes than the other two?
So the real comparison, 1 Cup to 1 Cup to 1 Cup:
Corn Flakes - 100 calories, 2g sugar
Wheaties - 110 calories, 4g sugar
Frosted Flakes - 148 calories, 15.6g sugar
I didn't know him well but I was on a college quiz team with the guy who bombed on the tsp/T question the first month of WWTBAM.

We like to keep a few boxes of "Cat-Sip" on hand. It's a lactose-free milk with added taurine- the nutrient vital for a cat's healthy diet. Comes in a little blue juice-box type of container, and doesn't need refrigeration until opened. Our kitties love it; we treat them on occasion, or when they're feeling ill and avoiding food. I took a tiny taste once; it's kinda sweet. Fine fine for doggies, too.Ritterskoop wrote:Dub always claims he wants the leftover milk but then he turns up his nose at it, so I don't leave him any, anymore. Gimme good old Cap'n Crunch for breakfast any day.

My favorite cereal is frosted mini wheats...I hate drinking the left over milk (I hate milk) so I like those because they sop it up so I get my calcium but don't have to drink it. Plus they're sweet and yummy! Or Kashi Cinnamon Harvest - similar but without the fake sugary coating.
I have never once added sugar to a cereal. I will add fruit, or I will put cereal in yogurt, but never sugar.

Whenever people come to my place I always have to apologize that I can't offer them any food other than plain turkey sandwiches. I go to the grocery store once a week and buy the food that I need for that week so I never have any extra food other than the bread, sliced turkey, and cheese that I use to make my lunch every day. I eat out three nights a week and I make the same three or four things for dinner every week the other four nights.
My diet is built around the fact that if I don't have any food at home I can't eat it.
No matter where you go, there you are.

I know what you mean! You need to find that precise interval after adding the milk, where the nuggets are just moist enough to spare your palate, but still pre-soggy. Kind of like that magical moment in blow-drying, where you're just past the soaked factor- yet not too dry- granting that elusive "good hair day."sunflower wrote: Love Cap'n Crunch...but it cuts up my mouth.

I love the crumbs in the bottom of the box, and Cap'n Crunch and Frosted Mini Wheats have some of the best crumbs around! My kids don't like sweet cereals (shock!), but my m-i-l gives me her Mini Wheat crumbs. And I like to combine cereals rather than eat just one kind at a time. And I don't eat it at breakfast, but like 4 pm.sunflower wrote:Love Cap'n Crunch...but it cuts up my mouth.Second Chance wrote: Gimme good old Cap'n Crunch for breakfast any day.

It's almost a habit now. I can't eat Rice Krispies, Cheerios, Wheaties, etc...without sugar on it. Maybe I should switch to Splenda, given the new business and all.

Mini-wheat crumbs are the best, no sugar required. I threw out the crumbs in the bottom of the Raisin Nut Bran box this morning, they get soggy too fast. Soggy mini-wheat crumbs don't bother me.minimetoo26 wrote:I love the crumbs in the bottom of the box, and Cap'n Crunch and Frosted Mini Wheats have some of the best crumbs around! My older brother combines cereals and can't believe I don't. He dumps in a little mueslix, some cornflakes, maybe a little raisin bran, no sugar, and he's good until lunch. He doesn't seem to mind that the stuff at the bottom of the bowl is soggy by the time he gets there.
