Possible Result of Writers on Strike

#1 Post by MarkBarrett » Wed Nov 07, 2007 9:47 am

From "The Programming Insider" at mediaweek.com

-Big Brother in the Winter:
As the current writers strike continues, CBS is busy casting a potential winter edition of summer favorite Big Brother for a possible February launch. Big Brother can easily fill three or more hours per week on the Eye net’s prime-time schedule.

This of course is great news or a nightmare depending on your preference.

Not to deny others of their guilty pleasure, but I vote for nightmare.

We drove to LA for Jeff's grandpa's funeral yesterday. The drive only took an hour, instead of the expected two hours, so I was searching for some fast food for the kids, since I knew they wouldn't be eating for a while.

Mt. Sinai is near Griffith Park and the Warner Brothers Studios. As we were driving by we saw about six different Writer's Strike Groups, one at each of the studio gates that we drove by.

They were large groups with matching signs and t-shirts. I woke up Maddie, who was napping, so that she could see the strike.

We were joking that the writers should have been chanting witty slogans or had witty signs, but they really didn't. There was one sign that said, "honk if you hate reruns." Since they are on strike, I guess they can't write witty slogans...

Anyway, I embarassed my daughter by honking at each of the groups. They would smile at our honks and wave to us because they weren't getting very many honks.

She told me that I had better not honk at the ABC lot, because she is really upset that she won't be getting to see new "Ugly Betty" episodes.

A ghost voting for nightmare?!

Actually, this is the worst possible scenario. I was actually hoping that the public would realize the crap that is 'reality TV' when they have to delay those shows due to the writers strike. "HUH?!"

I don't think I heard this news, before. Condolences to your family.

Sounds right to me. A strike is a strike.

What did you expect? :P

I know there must be an endless stream of What Else wannabes who'd love to be on Big Brother, but, for me, being a house hamster would be a good definition of hell.

And watching the show...pretty close.

I play trivia at a local bar on Mondays and we try to come up with a clever/funny team name.....this week's entry..."Don't tase me bro, I'm only a striking writer".
Most of the teams are made up of players who work in the industry (no writers as fas as I know). One of the members of our team edits Kid Nation and a fill-in on Monday does sound (ADR) for Heroes. Somebody on the team said that the writer's strike would have a big effect on the porn industry.....there would be better dialogue.
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

Ooooh!

I want to ask you to get some of the good stories we don't get to see on air, but I suspect the truth is that he's as bored out of his mind going through that tape as the kids are waiting around for The Book to give them something to do...

Robin said that next week's episode is really good.......since he edited it. :D

He did say that the producers/writers don't know what they're doing.......

I would love a Winter BB. It would help remove the taste of the last one from my mouth.

Oooooh!

Uly's found a page from The Book!!!

Must have been Nostradamus living in Bonanza City back in 1885, the way he's always right on with those "If you're reading this" predictions.

Actually that's been on of the issues. "Reality TV" writers are not part of the WGA.

Yes, as long as they don't invite the Donatos back.

Somebody should put that on a sign, it's much better than "honk if you hate reruns."

Using Tim's link, I was curious about other talent gigs available to those down south. The Jesus description here: http://losangeles.craigslist.org/lac/tlg/471523290.html made me laugh.

The writers' strike has accomplished what no one else could. Stopped Jack Bauer. Fox has announced that 24 will not air this season.

That will make Monday nights easier for me. When it airs, it's on opposite Heroes.

Speaking of which, I didn't see a spoiler thread this week. Did I miss it? --Bob

Jesus Christ:(20's - 40's) Innocent, kind, compassionate, irritable. This character has to somewhat resemble the stereotypical appearance of Jesus Christ.

I don't think there was one, which is just as well because I haven't had a chance to see it yet - busy evenings have prevented me from catching up on my DVR'ed programs.
