My latest quiz on Sploofus just received the Editor's Award!
Two new quizes made it into Sploofus today and the Buster Keaton one recieved the Editor's Award. They didn't say why, but I think that is pretty neat.
The other one was my math quiz - which was so upset about not getting the Editor's Award as well ended up canabalizing itself with the result that 7 8 9 (sorry about that - really these quizes are 100% bad puns/bad jokes free).

Or you can take advantage of my limited time offer of trying 2 for the price of one.
Enjoy!
---Jay (This number is the sixth Sophie Germain prime. It is also the sum of three consecutive squares, since my youngest daughter is Sophie as well - I went with this hint - if you know the number that meets this criteria then you will know the number of days to my scheduled air date - and no, Sophie Germain Primes are not part of my sploofus math quiz)

Wow, tribe!gotribego26 wrote:Don't know much about Buster Keaton, but you hit my wheelhouse with the math quiz. Good job - I've been studying up for a second career as a high school math teacher - it's nice to know the refreshers have worked some.

Changes are happening.

In the absence of the CFS:
7 8 9
by Barenaked Ladies
(from the children's album "Snacktime")
1, 2, 3 and 4 more makes 7
And 6 is afraid of 7 ... cause 7 ate 9!
Nine was minding his business
Talking to 10 about Gordie Howe's clothes
Why 7 ate 9? Nobody knows.
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 10
What about 9?
Seven ate nine!
Oh the cat'll have to live with eight lives now
Ronaldo will have to make do
Ever since seven ate 9 it seems
I've got an extra finger and an extra toe too
Seven ate nine!
Once upon a time in our solar system
We couldn't make do without 9
But Pluto's not a planet now, so eight'll do fine.
Oh the cat'll have to live with 8 lives now
And the Chinese will be out of luck
And the vampires will have to think of some other method
Cause without their K-9's, how will they suck?
Seven ate nine!

I'm excited, except when I'm terrified. I still have doubts this can work, but I've met two math dept chairs who tell me they'll call in the spring if they have something next fall. NC has a lateral entry program which allows me 3 years to finalize my certification while teaching - if I had been rrady last fall one would have probably hired me then. I thought I wasn't ready in a financial sense - but now I'm confident. I am very ready to get out of the corporate world. I'm ready for a diferetn set of challenges.peacock2121 wrote:Wow, tribe!gotribego26 wrote:Don't know much about Buster Keaton, but you hit my wheelhouse with the math quiz. I'm excited for you! If I had kids, I would want you to be their math teacher!gotribego26 wrote:I'm excited, except when I'm terrified. Well done!

Awesome. Please holler if you need ideas. Mom teaches math to fifth-graders now, and loves it even though she does not like math. She can sing the Pythagorean Theorem, though that has never been as handy a talent as we'd hoped.gotribego26 wrote:I'm excited, except when I'm terrified. I am looking at Teach For America for next summer's 5-week session, then assignment to a low-income school (we have enough here, so I would not have to move). But you being in math, they will be thrilled to have you right away.

Ooh, ooh! I need this for my Academic Bowl kids. I have a tune for the Quadratic Formula (Pop Goes the Weasel), and they love it. I'm always looking for new mnemonic stuff.Ritterskoop wrote:Mom teaches math to fifth-graders now, and loves it even though she does not like math. I've got to admit you had this bonehead scratching his head for a few minutes. To my knowledge, the only theme song they've written was for "The Big Bang Theory". What did they write for a game show? And our favorite game show is WWTBAM. Oh - Millionaire - "If I had a million dollars...". D'oh! You said it's the perfect them song, not that they use it.frogman042 wrote:Go BNL - who, of course, wrote the perfect theme song for our favorite game show of shows!

It has been my experience that when I am excited and terrified, I am doing the right thing. You will have growth and discover things about you that you would not have without the terror.gotribego26 wrote:I'm excited, except when I'm terrified. I tip my hat to you for being interested in education and for wanting it to be a contribution, not just a way to make a living.
