2008 Pigskin Pool

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Tue Aug 26, 2008 7:08 am

Well, actually, USA doesn't seem to be running the Pigskin Pool this year.... so I checked in at ESPN, and they have the Pigskin Pick'em, which appears to be exactly the same format as what USA Today used:

http://games.espn.go.com/pigskin/frontpage

Since I had to be reminded that I hosted the group last year (D'oh!), I have undergone the task of creating us a group over on ESPN. Since pretty much everyone here already has a Go/ESPN handle, registration should be a breeze. Once you create your entry, go to the Create or Join a group page and enter the group's name into the search box, which is....

WWTBAM Bored

You will need the group's password, which is...... yes......

squirrel

I will BiF this throughout the following week. The season starts next Thursday September 4th.....

Hey Fanny! We do have pick 'em again!

*Edited to add: Maybe we should create a separate pick 'em for the FF league..... Thoughts?

Somehow I was magically able to access my fantasy football website from work today after having it blocked by our filters for over a year. Maybe I can get to this contest site also.

Thanks LB

Is it a spread or nonspread game?

I will assume nonspread, just winners. It looks like you have to choose this option before joining the group, is why I am asking.

Yes, non-spread.

I don't think they have a pick 'em for fantasy teams, though.

Besides, we were the only ones that did it. Except when we'd bitch and whine at everybody to participate. And sometimes even then, we were the only ones that did it. Ha!

I don't feel it's fair of me to join the board's pool. Because all I would have to do is pick the exact opposite of my picks in my local money pool and I'd be in like Flynn. Ha!

I'm darned good and ready.

Duh..... ok, no excuse for my brain dead response on that!

Perhaps we should send a little note to espn telling them we want a pick 'em for FF teams.

Remember when Luuucy and I would post all those messages imploring people to "fill in their pick 'ems" or we would cry?

We weren't using it as a euphemism. Ha!

I think I will join a spread league so I can remind myself again why I don't bet on the NFL anymore. Last meaningful $$$ bet was over twenty years ago and that cured me. That particular bet was a result of betting against the Patriots every game in the playoffs up until they were crushed by Da Bears.

USA Today does have a pool this year. Here's the link.

You can't use the bookmark from last year to get to the page for this year though.

Good luck.

Yes, but I already set up the pool at ESPN, so I just went with that.

Besides, I hated having to re-register every year with USA Today anyway. Our old Go Bored handles still work fine at ESPN....

The USA Today thing hated a few of us last year. Maybe this one will work better.

Hey beast!

Do you have a plan for the idiots who forget to make their picks?

I don't think I can fill in picks for players over at ESPN. In fact, I just checked and I'm not even allowed to LOOK at other players picks until the deadline passes. So the commish powers are much weaker than for the USA Today pool we used to have....

But this gives me a chance to remind everyone..... if you HAVEN'T picked yet, the first game is tonight!

GET THOSE PICKS IN!!!!!!

And good luck to everyone this year.....

I don't have to worry about that. I'm in 8 different online contests this year plus two at the local casinos.
