General Obama speech impressions

#1 Post by gsabc » Fri Aug 29, 2008 6:50 am

-About time someone declared a "man on the moon in ten years" style project for oil independence. Should have happened thirty years ago.

-I finally figured out who Michelle Obama reminds me of. Vicki Lawrence doing Mama, except without the grey curly hair. Check out the mouth set.

-I fell asleep halfway through the speech. Not that I didn't think it was interesting. Truly wanted to listen to it (as I plan to listen to McCain's acceptance speech next week), but the post-wedding blues (similar to post-partum, but 20-some odd years postponed) have disrupted our sleeping patterns and we're heading to bed earlier than usual.
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

So you didn't cry your eyelashes off, like Oprah?

WGAS what Oprah did, or says she did? For all I care, she could have been standing on her head doing the shimmy. <mumbling>Media whore.</mumbling>

The nomination of O'Bama is a big landmark in American History. I was just surprised that he didn't open by honoring another big moment 45 years ago in D.C., Dr. King's "...I have a dream" speech.
Two great African American orators marking an historic moment on the same day in history. As much as he likes to link McCain/Bush, I think O'Bama/King would have added fathoms to his campaign. King transcended race in his ultimately successful quest for civil rights.

Hey, don't talk about my woman like that! Anymore anti-Oprah talk, and I'll extend the contract for her show for another 30 years!

So did Obama get the nomination based on the content of his character?
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

What would have been added to his campaign?

Not a whit, IMHO.

But, he did end with mentioning it.
