I missed my Mom today
I went to the Cub game today and witnessed a stupendous victory and I wanted to share it with my Mom. I know she's looking at me from heaven and cheering herself hoarse, but I wanted to call her when I was singing Go, Cubs, Go and have her sing along.
All of you hug your Mom or give them a call or remember them in your prayers. Life's short.
I know Mom will be in the Cubs' corner come October.
I'm counting on it.
One very hoarse (and exhausted) Cub fan

Thanks for sharing. You're right that she is with you one way or another.

Oh, Lily- she was singing along with you! You just couldn't hear her with all the crowds. So sorry for your sadness today. How long has she been gone now?

I lost my Mom 2 years ago in October. She was more than my Mom, she was my friend, my fellow Cub fanatic and a great wit. When Ramirez hit that homer, I was reaching for my cell to share the moment with her and the wave of loss hit me all over again.
she would have loved this year and enjoyed the ride for Tampa Bay as well since she was a Floridian! At her house a baseball game was always on!
this morning I'm gritty-eyed, but smiling. kind of a happy hangover. I know some of you aren't Cub fans, but this is one crazy year for us and I hope you can be happy for me anyway! I'm on the roller coaster and I don't want to get off!

Thank you for sharing. I can picture this happening so easily.lilyvonschtupp26 wrote:I lost my Mom 2 years ago in October. Mine is actually with me for a couple of days. Last night, while the rest of the family was otherwise occupied, we went and had a margarita and a bite to eat together at a bar by the river.
Just a nice moment to share and chat. Doesn't happen that often since we live 6,000 miles apart. Given all that is going on right now, it was nice to find a few moments away from everyone else.
Hugs to you Lily!

Lily --
Your post made me laugh -- but for a good reason.
I was on the phone with my Mom twice last night. Once, she was near tears; the second time, she was in tears.
The reason she was near tears the first time I talked to her was that Aramis Ramirez just hit a grand slam and poor Cole Hamels wasn't going to get the win YET AGAIN and how many times has the kid pitched well and had no decision and Phillies bullpen, among the best in the NL all season, is all of a sudden not and she always liked the Cubs because of Ernie Banks but she doesn't like it when they beat the Phillies.
And then she took a breath.
So, I was talking to TLAF about the same game as you were telepathically talking to your Mom and thinking of her.
TLAF started going to games in 1935 and loves her baseball. She would have gotten along fine with your mom.
We have XM radio in the new car and she was amazed to hear all the play-by-play of so many games last weekend.
The second time was after Obama's speech. Mom was born before women got the right to vote and was thrilled to vote for Hillary in the primary but she loves Obama.
She said he makes her feel as if there is hope for the future. She calls McCain an angry old man (she's 91, she knows from old men).
Of course, she also give GWB a minus rating and calls Cheney The Puppeteer, so she isn't exactly a GOP fan, although she would cross party lines to vote for our old state rep.

Aww, Lily, your mom must have been a real gem. My mom is 91 and also a sports fan. When Auburn beat Florida in football last year, my cell phone rang and it was my mother on the phone! She couldn't wait to tell me had stayed up to watch the end of the game, as we never win a game against Florida except in the last second.

If the Blue Crew doesn't make it to the series, I will surely be rooting for the Angels to win it all. But my third pick is the Cubbies, I just want Ernie Banks and the long supportive loyal Cub fans to be able to enjoy the fruits of victory in the post Tinker to Evers to Chance era! Harry Carey, Steve Goodman (my namesake) smiling down on Wrigley as well, not to mention more locally older residents of Catelina Island long ago spring training grounds for the Wrigley owned Cubs! Best of luck! I still can't believe they blew it in 69 with Banks, Santo and Fergie, I loved seeing that group play at Dodger Stadium and Leo Durocher was quite a manager too!lilyvonschtupp26 wrote:I went to the Cub game today and witnessed a stupendous victory and I wanted to share it with my Mom. Lily, you didn't need to call your mom, she was right there with you. I talk to my grandma all the time now, whereas before she died, I had to wait to get her on the phone or see her in person.
