:we are insulted!!:
the bucs 1st rd draft pick is refusing to sign the contract he agreed to sign, as his agent Scott Boras is saying the contract was sent to mlb after the deadline.
Or that his verbal acceptance is nonbinding.
Or he learned that his client isnt getting the biggest bonus.
I cant believe Scott is being a weasel.

This seems to be Marley's clueless week.
Actually, Ramsley delivered an animated version of adman's avatar to me, last evening. I must say it's a rather restrained and tasteful one, as those go. Not migraine-inducing at all!

I agree. Tasteful avatars are important. Too bad I can't see his at work.

From the facts as I understand them, the "weasel" is right. Here's the story on Baseball Prospectus, though that's a for-pay site.BigDrawMan wrote:the bucs 1st rd draft pick is refusing to sign the contract he agreed to sign, as his agent Scott Boras is saying the contract was sent to mlb after the deadline.

The deadline was midnight. The player didn't agree to the terms (not even orally) until after midnight. The Pirates asked for, and received, an extension of the midnight deadline from MLB. Only one small problem. The deadline is a term of the collective bargaining agreement with the Players Association, so MLB doesn't have the right to extend the deadline.
And I don't blame the kid a bit. Before signing his first contract is the only time in the first ten or so years of his professional career that a player has any real bargaining power. So if a self-interested club decided to break the rules to try to grab an advantage, I have no problem at all with any player who can grabbing an advantage back. --Bob
