Women's freestyle wrestling

Seriously, I did not know this event existed. Apparently it debuted in Athens and Bronze Medalist Verbeek won a Silver in Athens. There is no truth to the rumour that the US team withdrew because they did not like the consistency of the mud.

Sadly, this Olympic event started a half century after it would have done the Fabulous Moolah any good.

I wonder if Andy Kaufman would have been eligible to wrestle.....after a visit to Trinidad, CO?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

I expected this thread to degenerate into another commentary about the differences between men's and women's athletic attire.

I am severely disappointed.

OK: Why is it necessary for women to play Olympic Beach Volleyball (where, if there is even a beach present, it was probably landscaped in) in bathing suits? I don't mean "why do men like to watch it", I mean "what makes bathing suits part of the sport?".

I guess you missed this thread.

People do tend to wear swimsuits when playing beach volleyball. Now, whether they need to be so skimpy is another question.

Why do male beach volleyball players wear ugly lime-green two piece athletic outfits?

Do they benefit from having a little extra "heft" to maximize the velocity of their serves and returns?

Isn't it amazing how many of the female beach v players are above 30?

Wouldn't James son of Saucy love it if there were an under-18 female beach volleyball world championship?

Why did the Canadian PTB including our right-wing rag The National Post panick like crazy after the first four days?

Did no one point out, for example, that the rowing finals were all on Sunday?

Did Half-President Obama really claim that his moral flaw is having drinks when he was under 21? And did Half-President McCain really claim after 45 seconds that the questions were difficult?

The computer is telling me I should not be writing all this.

A squall line is coming through. Mild by Kansas standards, but our first real set of thunderstorms since May.

I will come back. Cleansed by electric fire and rain.
