So, here we are. Down one vehicle and having to now deal with visits to the doctors and dealing with insurance companies on top on running around trying to tie up loose ends with the house we are trying to buy. The problem we had with losing Lady G's truck was that even though it was a 1998, it was in pristine condition and only had 40,000 miles on it. So, if you went by Kelley's Blue Book, the vehicle was only valued at about $3,200. But, as you know you can't by a scooter for that price so we were going to have to do some fancy footwork to get a fair settlement from the insurance company. Fortunately, after telling the tell to a very understanding agent, we got a settlement offer than even surpassed what I was expecting. We immediately agreed to the offer and proceeded to go find another vehicle. This is a story chapter unto inself but, the make a long story short, we wound up buying a 2007 Pontiac Vibe. It's a very peppy little hatchback/mini-SUV that gets great mileage. It's also a lot of fun to drive. But, I digress.
Back to the house. So we had settled on The Pond House; made the offer; the offer was negotiated and finally accepted and we had our inspection. Now all we had to do was close, right? Well, sort of. We had a closing date set for the morning of Aug 1 and we had arranged for the movers to bring our furniture in later that day. Our stuff had been in storage for a month and we were anxious to start the long unpacking process. However, two days before the closing we get a call from the loan officer telling us that there was no way we would be able to close on Aug 1 due to the fact that the seller had a number of judgments against him from the city of Des Moines that would have to be resolved. So, with another collective groan, we had to call the movers and tell them to postpone the delivery until after the weekend and we settled in for another long weekend in the hotel. However, a ray of light came shining in later that day when the loan officer called and told us that we could close the following day if we wanted to. The issues with the liens had or we in the process of being resolved and the lawyers suggested we go ahead and close. So, we set up the closing for Thursday afternoon and called the movers again and asked if we could put the delivery back on for Friday. The lady told me that she had not yet "unscheduled" our delivery so as far as the moving guys were concerned, nothing had changed. Whew! Everything was set. Again! Now we were hoping that no more surprises were around a corner between then and Friday. Fortunately, none were. Closing went smoothly; moving delivery went smoothly and we have spent the last couple of weeks unpacking and buying the little enhancements which will make the house special for us.
So, there you have it. I will post pics of the house over in Phoenix shortly if you want to see what all our fuss was about. I hope you enjoyed the story.
