I am waiting to see the rowing eight men with cox final, cuz the heat with a seven-second lead made me think of Big Red also.

If they do, Phelps should have a better record standing stud than Secretariat did. Whatever made Big Red great he kept to himself.

Secretariat didn't need to depend on the speed of other horses running before or after him for a win, either.

Now there's a concept! First the horse runs his/her race, then the jockeys all line up for a 1500-meter. Total time wins the purse.

I didn't see the swimming last night (massive rain and hail storm knocked out the signal), but I thought of that the other night with the race where he broke the record by like three seconds.

Kinda sorta. There have been big time scandals about former thoroughbred champions being sold to Japan. When they are no longer useful, they're either worked to death or slaughtered.

After the Ferdinand and Sunday Silence scandals, I think most breeders incorporate buy back rights into the sales now.
