If you were a young girl in the 80's....
...then maybe you will be as jealous as I am right now.
NN is working today, on his way to Beijing. Mary Lou Retton is on his plane!! Aghhghghgh!
I never ever gush over these celeb types, but she was my ultimate girl-hood hero. I told him that he has to chat her up and tell her that.

He is a first officer, and is working this flight as one of the IRO's (international relief officer).

Some deal she promoted not long after the '84 Olympics that was supposed to get kids out to the bowling alleys on Saturday mornings (I can't even remember what big time bowling association sponsored it)... I guess as opposed to the back alleys and hanging out with the other future street hooligans...
I already bowled on a Saturday morning league when I was a kid, so I didn't get any of the cheesy stickers or pizza they had....

Hey, I remember those commercials. She was wearing a stars and stripes jacket and a big cheesy ass grin, right? (Yes, I realize that doesn't narrow it down much. Ha!)littlebeast13 wrote:marrymeflyfree wrote:Dunno. What is it?littlebeast13 wrote:Whatever happened to Super Bowling Saturday......?

Was Nadia Comaneci on the plane, then I'd be impressed.

I'm glad someone else remembers, because I can't even get any hits for it on Google. All that come sup is Super Bowl stuff.....
I'm sure she had the SSS jacket and big grin, but I can still hear her saying "Well wait till you see what's happening on Super Bowling Saturday" like it was yesterday....

I don't remember it being called Super Bowling Saturday, just a generic pitch for the All American Sport of Bowling. "When was the last time you went bowling?" or something like that.littlebeast13 wrote:Here's Fanny! wrote:Hey, I remember those commercials. Two of us might not be enough, we might have to have a quorum. Because, as HD says, if you can't find it on the internet, it never happened. I wonder if she had a box of Little Traveler tissues tucked in the pocket of her S&S jacket?

I remember my best friend had a SBS sticker stuck on the wall of his room back in the day. Maybe I oughta go over to the house he grew up in and see if it's still there.....
But if SBS was wiped out of existence by the passage of time, then the sticker probably turned into anti-matter sometime during the 90's....

They probably had several different campaigns and you saw the one targeted to the junior league candidates whereas I saw the adult "go blow your money on lines and beer tonight instead of going to the bar" ones.littlebeast13 wrote:Here's Fanny! wrote:I don't remember it being called Super Bowling Saturday, just a generic pitch for the All American Sport of Bowling. I've been to Trinidad! But I'm usually just passing through. I used to work with a bailiff who had been a nurse at "the" hospital in Trinidad. He explained the addadictomy procedure to me, complete with drawings. When our flight was delayed from Ottawa we missed our Phoenix connection and had to overnight in Newark. When we were taking the shuttle from the Fairfirld Inn we chatted with an officer and flight attendant who were working the flight to Beijing leaing Newark yesterday at noon

I grew up with 4 sisters in the 80's, so I'm an unlikely leading authority on girls stuff from the 80's. I know quite a bit about the Care Bears, Rainbow Brite, Strawberry Shortcake, and let's not forget Jem who's truly outrageous....
