Anyway, if I were obsessed with taking the test again, how late in the season do you suppose is too late to go? It says you can audition for famous names during a taping as well but I have no clue when famous names week is. I'm thinking I can make a birthday trip out of it for hubby and I at the end of September. Too late?
My advice would be to take the test at the earliest possible opportunity, simply to give yourself the greatest number of tapings for which you could be selected. Since the taping schedule seems to end earlier this year than in previous seasons, it's hard to tell when the last "practical" date might be. (I always assume that if you're the most wonderful contestant they've ever seen, they will move entire planets around to get you on the show ASAP, but none of us can count on that.) In theory, you could get a happy card on the last possible day of auditions and be held over in the pool until next season, but that provides too great a chance that they might forget how wonderful you are by next July.
Don't worry about Famous Name week. If they're still casting for that when you get there, fine. If not, though, the regular shows will give a greater number of opportunities to reach the Hot Seat.

I'm pretty sure Bixby has one, but she's sorta on a leave of absence right now. We'll round one up if we have to. We're very resourceful around here.

Thanks silver. Hubby's birthday is 9/24 so I'm thinking maybe that weekend or the weekend before. This time we can both give it a shot. He'll be "the reluctant auditioner"

It's such a nice time of year to be in the city too. The park is right there, and it's not too hot to be outside. That will be fun!

Don't make hub audition if he isn't into it! He may just pass the test and be put in the Hot Seat! The AP's have always been a big sucker for someone who was kidnapped, tortured and otherwise coerced into auditioning!

Forgot to mention the 5 that passed were MAWGs. Is that a-typical? Or is it typical to pass but then be screened out?
You trying to goad me into another rant?
Yes, MAWGs are big trivia fans and tend to pass the test in high numbers. Then we're discriminated against so that the show can be filled with the "appropriate" number of actors and young people.

As someone defending "young people", I have to say that I'm 99% sure that I only got 2 wrong on my test...and I finished my test in about 3 minutes flat. So it's not like I didn't deserve to be there. You do too and I'm sorry they haven't picked you, but I deserved to be picked and I didn't get on just because I'm young or whatever.
I usually let this stuff slide by but I felt the need to say something today because contrary to popular belief, someone can be young AND smart. I graduated in the top of my class, I got very high SAT scores and I'm in MENSA and I won't apologize for being young or deemed "tv worthy" by producers.
With respect, sunflower, I didn't say someone couldn't be young and smart. I was responding to an observation Julie made (from a limited sample set) at her audition. With any non-subjective selection process (either according to test scores or by truly random drawings from a hat), the population in the Hot Seat would resemble the population that passes the test. But TPTB will not tolerate that outcome.
If you're a strong contestant
and a good talk show guest, good for you. Some of the Hot Seaters we see are the latter but not the former.

I used to be young and smart. Now I'm old and stupid.

I didn't graduate anywhere in my class, I don't have any SAT scores and I am not in Mensa.
Maybe I wasn't young and smart, after all. Ha!
I'm darned good and ready.

You don't have any chance of getting on AYSTa5G.

Since I'm not auditioning, that's a pretty safe bet.

Marley has recreated the "age old" ageism debate. I guess I slipped through the cracks being a possible strong contestant and former "talk show host".
