Bird's nest? I don't think so.
There's a shot of the Olympic Stadium in Bejing taken from the air on the front of today's NY Times.
It doesn't look so much like a bird's nest as it looks like a toilet seat.
I wish I had the computer smarts to clip the picture and show you, but trust me on this.

I am about 25% sure of this.

I'm going with the inflatable ring for people with, well, uncomfortable backsides.nitrah55 wrote:There's a shot of the Olympic Stadium in Bejing taken from the air on the front of today's NY Times.

Enough already. It's my fault! Get over it!

I don't think Chinese toilets even have seats:nitrah55 wrote:There's a shot of the Olympic Stadium in Bejing taken from the air on the front of today's NY Times.

They must be planning a roof of some sort for the structure, for use in fall and winter, whether or not they say so now. Remember, Beijing is the "northern capital" and it can get cold.
The view from the ground or near-ground had been very beautiful, and this view, whether you use the t______ word or not, is ugly.

It was originally intended to have a retractable "translucent" roof but it was going to be very expensive and reportedly was eliminated as a cost cutting move.etaoin22 wrote:They must be planning a roof of some sort for the structure, for use in fall and winter, whether or not they say so now. Beijing Stadium
I found this site interesting. It appears to be the proposed concepts for the stadium. B11 is the eventual winning design. I found B12 iteresting. It appears to have a "UFO" for a roof.
Stadium concepts
Exactly how they proposed to suspend the roof didn't seem entirely clear...

I think that's all the roof they are planning. Most new stadiums around the world have those roofs over the seating area but not necessarily the playing field. European soccer fans are surprised when they see new U.S. and Canadians stadium that don't have roofs over the seats. We tend to think of domed stadiums when we think of roofs but mostly places do not.etaoin22 wrote:They must be planning a roof of some sort for the structure, for use in fall and winter, whether or not they say so now.
