I Already Hate Sploofus

#1 Post by littlebeast13 » Mon Aug 04, 2008 6:48 am

I've gotten 3 gimme questions thus far out of the four days, and only got credit for one of them. I was glitched out of a correct answer on the 1st, then today I brain farted by trying to think too fast and answered that Egypt was in Asia....

And surprisingly enough, the one arcane question I got I wound up getting correct!

I'm still having the slowdown of the display of the question. My answers have been in the 15+ second times because I never see the darned thing for ten seconds. :(

They must not be TV, music or movie questions.

It pays to stay up late.....I was #7 ever so briefly and then the other nocturnal denizens began answering. Now I'm out of the hot 100. Oh yes, I have gotten my four middling q's correct so far.

I got the dreaded "Music and Musicians" category on Sunday. They wanted me to name an album by some band I've never heard of.

After looking them up I find that they are an "alternative-country" band. So I'm OK that I had never heard of them.

And, yes, I missed the question.
No matter where you go, there you are.

So as a Sploofus newbie, maybe I can hijack this thread and find out aside from the QOTD and such finding quizes and kerplunks - finding some quiz that looks interesting seems far from straight-forward - what other things do folks participate in? Also, I have some Showdown Tokens, but I'm not sure what they are good for. So, aside from the QOTD, it seems to be filled with a lot of quizes that are way too trivial or way too specialized - I guess I'm accessing how can I improve my Sploofus experience?

Thanks,

---Jay

What's a "sploofus"? Does it taste good, or is it like arugula....?
I promise not to eat all the food for the kids next time!

You can write your own quizzes if you don't like the ones other people write.

You can sort the quizzes by difficulty by clicking above the ratings. I also like the editor's choice quizzes.
Suitguy is not bitter.

feels he represents the many educated and rational onlookers who believe that the hysterical denouncement of lay scepticism is both unwarranted and counter-productive

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

So I took your advice and wrote a quiz for sploofus - even though my philosophy is that it is so much more creative to curse the darkness then risk being burned by lighting one candle. I know hermillion has done this at least once, but I don't know if anyone else has. Currently, sploofus tells me that there are 182 quizzes that need to be reviewed ahead of me - does anyone have a sense of how long it takes them - hours, days, months, years, decades?

Also, I still don't know what use the Showdown tokens are for.

Jay - I cut and pasted this from the Sploofus Survival Guide. For the record, I really like the showdowns. Let us know when your quiz posts so that we can head on over to take it!

Cindy

http://www.sploofus.com/ssg.sp#

Each week, you will receive ONE Showdown Token. These tokens may be accumulated and redeemed at your leisure. Showdown Tokens allow you (the challenger) to challenge the Sploofus player immediately AHEAD of you on the current all time leaderboard (the challengee). If you redeem a showdown token, a notice will instantly be sent to the challengee. You and the challengee will then be given a random Sploofus question from the challengees current game play level. You will both be given the exact same question. The challengee then has 7 days to respond to your challenge. If he/she does not, you win the showdown. Otherwise, the player who answers the question correctly the fastest, wins. If you (the challenger) wins, you are credited 10% of the challengees total Sploofus Points; the challengee however does not lose those points. Only the challenger assumes risk with this system. If you (the challenger) loses, the challengee claims 10% of your total Sploofus Points. In the event of a stalemate (both the challenger and the challengee answer the question incorrectly) no action is taken.

The rate of review really varies, but I would guess that with 182 in front of you, it will be about a week before your quiz goes live. It could be quite a bit less, because I've seen them get really motivated and knock out a hundred or so in a day, but the usual rate seems to be about 25/day on average.

On Day 5, I finally got one right!

Granted, it was guessing the chemical symbol for helium, but I still got one this month. :D
