Taken for Granite

#1 Post by Bob Juch » Mon Aug 04, 2008 7:08 am

Snopes article about granite counter-tops emitting high levels of radon:

Do they mention the shame of having to make do with Formica counter-tops?
I believe in the usefulness of useless information.

I'll just spend as little time in my kitchen as possible. I only cook on Sundays (well, this week it was Saturday) so maybe I'll be OK.

I have Corian counters, but I covet granite.

I have Formica in my house (we stole it, so I'm not complaining) and granite in the beach house. I so want to gut my kitchen, but it would be too massive of a project to live through, so the wallpaper and countertops will go, and the countertops will become granite, radon or no radon. I'm stuck with the white cabinets and tile. Grr.

I'm too broke to do this for a while, anyway, so I'm spared the radon for another year...

She just inherited one of Demon Child's ballet costumes, so she's in Sparkly Gold Star Ecstasy now. She will sneer at your silver flakes! :P

My just-retired boss, being the scrupulous sort, had his house radon-tested when he was getting ready to sell it, and the radon level was 15 (I don't know 15 whats, but I know that four is the maximum safe level). He battled prostate cancer at way too young an age (around 50), and his markers started to climb again after living in that house about two years. I don't know if there's a connection, I hope not, and I hope wherever he lands in Addison (near Dallas), it's safe for him and his family.

I may have already told this, that dnever stops me, so here goes.

Sting was a late bloomer, in terms of finding a career.

He decided he should, so he did some research and looked into many things and landed on two strong maybes. Radon detection or tree care. He chose tree care because people won't spend money on things they can't see.

The End

The End
:) I have to smile at the "The End" part...

The boss spent about $1,200 on radon mitigation -- pretty hefty fee for a couple fans and a tester you can buy on-line for about $30. But then he was "certified" radon safe and could sell the house after all.

I'm glad Sting ended up in tree care -- forests are a prize no matter where they are.
