Good news for Harry Potter fans!
J K Rowling is publishing The Tales of Beedle the Bard in December, with the proceeds going to charity. Just in time for Christmas!

This might be an unpopular response but I don't think it's good news.
I was a diehard Harry Potter fan. I saw the movies as soon as they came out. I went to bookstores at midnight to get the books. But she was absolutely unwavering that there would only be 7 books...until the end when the dollar signs started disappearing, now there are loopholes to that where she can sneak other books in.
Okay, she'll give $8 million to charity. One single copy has already sold for $4 million.
Single day sales for the last Harry Potter book were in the neighborhood of $150 million. Just on the first day, nevermind remaining sales and movie rights and royalties.
I think she could spare a little more than $8 million. I'm just saying...
I just think she's a little money hungry. Would I be too, if in her position? Maybe. I just think she's milking it now though. Will I buy the book? Probably. But I won't feel good about it!!

I'm glad to see that this wasn't just my reaction.sunflower wrote:This might be an unpopular response but I don't think it's good news.

This is the publication of material that was in its final form a year ago. It isn't like there is any effort here on her part. Good news would constitute a peek at that Wizarding World Encyclopedia she's hinted at. This text has been read by the determined long before this. At least I've read them, or at least detailed summaries (I cannot recall which).
To be fair, the $4M has already been donated, so it wouldn't be credited against the $8M.

I think it's good news, and I'm confident that when she says the proceeds go to charity, she means exactly that.
I'm with Tlynn after seeing the trailer the other night -- wow!
