Off to hell, er, Disneyworld

for a week.

May God have mercy on my soul.

But it's the first time my 8 yr old daughter has been and this will probably be the last full on family vacation since my 17 yr old son is a senior and off to college next year.

If I'm not back in a week, you can divide up my stuff......

I just wish, when I went 2 years ago I knew about the Millionaire attraction.

We're taking the family in mid-December. It's one of my favorite places in the world. Have fun, and if you can ignore the crowds, I'm sure you'll have a very memorable time.

Oooh, have a grand time! It will be neat to see what interests kids at two different ages like that. Plus, add in what the parents like to see and you'll have the park pretty much covered!

Please explain how you "ignore the crowds." The last time we went was about 12 years ago and the most vivid memories I have of the place are the lines... and the lines... and the LINES. I think it finally start to let up around 10 P.M.

I have memories of, years ago, watching a comedian who had a routine called "A Day at Disneyland." He would stand with arms folded and be silent. Then a couple of seconds later he would take a step or two forward. And he would do this for about a minute or two but you get the idea. It was hilarious and all too true.

We picked now because it's one of the slowest times of the year crowd-wise here at the vortex of money sucking from my wallet, er, Disneyworld.

But Brick, how can you be online when you should be out amongst them, you ask?

Landed yesterday afternoon, daughter with a 102 fever, headache, cough of last two days suddenly turned virulently productive, etc, etc. Except for a minor cough which she gets sometimes during season changes, she was fine when we sent off on the journey.

Spent yesterday afternoon/evening among the finest of humanity in the urget care 'doc in a box' facility.

Got my daughter fixed up, she's resting in the room today while my wife and sons do their thing.

What? Read a book instead of mixing with a crowd? Well, ok, Brer Rabbit, if I must.......................

Hopefully, she'll be more up to speed tomorrow and enjoy at least a partial day in one of the parks.

My son had an uncanny ability to get sick on every vacation we ever had. He got strep throat on our trip to Cape Cod in 1991. Cost me $100 just to get my foot in the door at the doctor's office as they don't take Alabama Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

I'm glad she's on the road to recovery. I hope the road is smooth from here on out.

And, I second your feelings about Disneyland/World! Yes.

We (my hub and I) had to attend two or three sales recognition contests back in the day, back to back at Disneyworld. But you couldn't bring kids. Which was okay since they'd been to Disneyland at some point and the whole point of a couple vacation is sorta without the kids. But, Disneyworld?We ended up taking a friend from the group, "Son" as he is known to us (he's 40 or something and was single at the time) to GE's Carousel of Progress. The one with the little vignettes from various decades in the round?

It got stuck for twenty minutes in the '20's while we sat there, with the other four people, listening to "Now is the time, Now is the place, these are the best times of your life." Thinking we were in hell for sure.

It was good for several moments of gutbusting laughter. If they hadn't gotten it started again there may have been bloodshed.

How awful for your daughter to get sick on her first trip to Disney World!

And how noble of you to volunteer to be the parent staying in the hotel room with her, instead of mixing with the crowds in the park.

By ignoring the crowd, I meant that if you have the ability to not let the lines bother you and realize that you are going to spend a good amount of time in line, I think you'll have a good time. Some people can't get past the long lines and that will always color their opinion of Disney World.

I don't know if they had them 12 years ago when you were there, but they now have something called Fast Passes for their most popular rides. Any customer can go up to the Fast Pass kiosk and take a ticket, which has a time window in which they can get in the faster line and the time in which they can get another Fast Pass at another attraction. If you use them well, you can really cut down on line time on the most popular rides.

You can ignore many of the lines by utilizing the Fast Pass system, and planning around it.

Have fun and make sure you try Soarin'!

We are heading to DW the week after Thanksgiving, we've been there a couple of other trips at this time of year. I'm sure that there will still be some crowds when we arrive on Sunday and quite a few people on Monday. But, if it's anything like past visits, starting Tuesday morning it will be my family and Mickey Mouse. Relatively speaking, DW will be a ghost town. No lines, no waits, just march right in.

In contrast to my first trip to DW when I was in high school. A friend and I went a couple of days after Christmas. This was in the 70's so only the Magic Kingdom was open. Every attraction had long lines. I have vivid memories of the three-hour standing wait to weave our way through the caves of the Pirates of the Car. - Everyone was packed is so tightly you really didn't have to even move your feet. I think it was my first sexual experience - I'm just not sure.

Lesson learned - No more after Christmas trips to DW.

We took Jeff's WWTBAM cruise around Mother's Day and combined it with four days at the parks. While in "Germany" I bought some wine to take back to our room. I was told that they could sell me the wine, but they couldn't sell me a corkscrew for fear that I would drink the wine in the park. Maddie stepped up and bought me a corkscrew for Mother's Day.
