A TV trivia question for today

#1 Post by macrae1234 » Fri Jul 25, 2008 11:10 am

What 2 actresses are 2-3 in playing the same character in the most number of episodes in a prime time drama series less then 10 episodes behind Miss Kitty's 352 in Gunsmoke?

I would say Loretta Swit was one, at least I think she was on all the season of Mash. Was it on that long or did it just seem like an eternity?

How about S. Epatha Merkerson? I don't think she was on L&O in the Dzundza days, but she's been on there a while.

I did say drama show so no Loretta or Lucy(pea you've got some splainin' to do). Lucy Ricardo was not on that long and Loretta was in around 230 episodes.

BUT Anita Van Buren is indeed number 3 a regular since 1993-94 season the first 3 seasons Logan had 3 partners Dzundza, Paul Sorvino and then Jerry Orbach.

Mash was considered a comedy? I thought about that for a hot minute, but I seem to remember it being all angst and drama.

But YAY! for the Lieut!

Now I have to try and think of the other one.

That's why I said pea had splainin to do
Mash was defined as a medical drama black comedy or the easier dramedy.

How about Donna Reed - from her show - that's not a comedy, right?

If SEM has been on L&O for 15 years and she's number three, then it would have to be a series that was on longer than 15 years and I really can't think of any outside of soap operas or maybe spinoffs.

But since you specified A prime time drama, I'm not considering any of those.

Oh, wait! I don't watch ER so I don't know about any of the characters, but has the crabby lady with the cane been on there since the beginning?

How about Michelle Lee from Knots Landing?

I only watched the show at the beginning, but IIRC, she was on the show for most, if not all, of its run.

And it did run a long time. I didn't even realize it was still on when it left the air.

LOL - the crabby lady with the cane left a few seasons ago.

I want to say Laura something.

Not sure how long Abby has been on ER.

Nope The Donna Reed Show was a family/situation comedy and lasted 8 seasons and 270 episodes. MASH Donna Reed Show connection TV daughter Shelly Fabares has been married to Mike(BJ Hunnicut) Farrell since 1984.

Does actress mean physically or do voiceovers count? Because in that case I'd say Yeardley Smith or Julie Kavner.

But you knew right away who I was talking about. Ha!

Is Abby Maura Tierney? She definitely hasn't been on 15 years because she was on NewsRadio before that.

I didknow who you meant. She turned out to be gay. Once she came out of the closet, she became nicer.

Yes Karen Fairgate MacKenzie was in all 344 episodes over 14 seasons of Knots Landing. Not only one of the longest running dramas in history but the longest running spin off.

The Simpson's would definitely be in the comedy genre

Could it be Barbara Hale? I know that Perry Mason seasons had a whole bunch of episodes (30-39) and she was on there for about ten years.

Oh, yeah. Comedy. I can't front on that, I totally forgot about the drama thing as I was just trying to run shows through my mind that I have seen lots of season sets on the Amazon emails I get.

WTG there, Mel. I discounted all the nighttime soap operas as spinoffs without even thinking they were on longer than the original shows.

Answering my own question since I didn't see the right answer posted, Perry Mason was on nine seasons with Hale appearing in 217 of the 271 episodes. Another possibility, Angela Lansbury was on 14 seasons and 264 episodes of Murder She Wrote (one season she only worked half a season and for the remaining episodes, she introduced the episode during which a "friend" of hers would solve the crime).
