So do you agree that the producers must not be giving the contestants any briefing about the strengths and weaknesses of the 5th Graders, which is why they consistently select Nathan too early? Or did they decide it would look bad if they continued to favor him with his reputation as "The Closer"?
My opinion is that the people they cast for this show don't watch the show very much. I realize that the episodes are taped a lot earlier than they show, but surely they don't tape an entire season before showing a single episode. Of course, since each episode is self-contained, it's possible for them to tape and air them in whatever sequence they prefer.

They have safecrackers on If Walls Could Talk a lot when people buy old houses and there are locked safes left behind. They don't want to drill them out and destroy the antique value but they want to know if somebody stashed the treasure of the Sierra Madre in there.

I suppose for modern safes that are really expensive (like the vaults we had at the Courthouse) it would be more cost effective to have it cracked than repaired.
I wonder if he was with Geraldo and Al's safe?
I know that's not a real question, but I think they used dynamite on that one. (Yes, I actually watched it live. Ha!)

I forgot one thing from this report: the preview for next week.

Next week's contestant will be...G.I. Barbie! :)

Seriously, she's an attractive blonde sergeant who can do an impressive number of push-ups.

Whether she can answer 5th Grade questions, we'll find out next week!

The geo nitwits were hard at work again.

Looks like they must be on a high dollar hunt again. Don't know what the leftover questions were but the ones that were played were even more ridiculously easy than usual.

Not that it helped this "cast" much.

Unfortunately even if you are a nitwit, geo or otherwise you can still get to $25K or more with little or no effort. Or knowledge.

Just doesn't seem right.

At least they were "good TV" cast members!

Oh wait, they weren't even that...

5th grader is getting so tiresome, they built the show in a way that is is only conceviable for someone to win 500,000 dollars max. When they face the million dollar question they can only see a category so they would be risking 975,000 on an unknown question, if they managed to save any of their cheats they lose them automatically on the Million dollar question so that they can't have the help of a 5th grade prodigy.

The promos always make it seem like such a great episode but the only surprises are the same old crap: an old teacher, and old friend, etc...

And yet AJ still persists in having a geography question EVERY SINGLE DAY on the QOD. I think I might have gotten more than one right this month, but it was obviously a fluke. Ha!
A loooooong while back, Millionaire asked for the capital of Australia, and I joined several of you in yelling Canberra!!!! at the screen. The audience dursted the contestant with Sydney.

I'm pretty sure I got today's AJ geography Q wrong, but I got one right the other day!

Canberra is beautiful. It was designed by a Statesider architect, from Chicago IIRC. They spent a ton of money on the capitol -- marble throughout. Our tour guide did not totally approve of the excesses, but wow -- what a showcase.

KJ's blog revealed he taped an appearance on the show. It must be of the celebrity/charity kind?

That's why I'm still watching the show, to finally see how a Jeopardy! champ would do.

He's sworn to secrecy about all the details like that, but there's no question in my mind that he was playing for charity. I just can't picture Ken jumping around the stage and carrying on in the over-the-top manner required for all non-celebrity 5th Grader contestants.

Actually, they'd only be risking losing $475,000.

Even though you should go for it if you think you are 50% or better (because your expected value would be positive), I'd expect that nearly every contestant will be sufficiently risk averse that they'd stop at $500,000.

Some details announced

Other celebs:
Kathy Ireland
Dean Cain
Star Jones
Sugar Ray Leonard
Jack Hanna
Jennie Garth
Robert "Hoot" Gibson (astronaut)
George Fitzgerald Smoot III (astrophysicist/Nobel Laureate)

Guess we'll see if Jungle Jack might make a decent "Ask The Expert" lifeline after-all.

This article also lists the new 5th graders:

I rarely watch the show. Are celebrity editions an established part of the show, or is that a new thing for this season?

There weren't any gimmicks during the first season but last year they introduced celebrity editions and "visiting classes" during sweeps.

They've done it some before. The only celeb I remember now is that skateboarder--Tony Hawk?

This season's new class of 5th graders includes:

Bryce, 10, from Rockwall, TX, loves math and wants to be a lawyer or accountant when he grows-up.

Francesca, 10, from San Diego, CA, says science is her favorite subject and aspires to be a veterinarian or a missionary.

Jenna, 10, from Baltimore, MD, likes English and science and dreams of becoming a marine biologist.

Jonathan, 9, from Los Angeles, CA, considers lunch to be his favorite subject and wants to be a scientist or an inventor one day.

Olivia, 10, from Los Angeles, CA, loves history, art and wants to design video games when she gets older.
So are the three from SoCal the professional actors?

And they've found another Olivia?

I would have thought you would have grown tired by now.

Same with the other people.

Since there is a remote possibility that they might call me to come out for an interview I figure I ought to keep up with the show, just in case.

It does not say. I am making an assumption, based on TPTB's previous actions of hiring young actors for these roles. When the credits roll and we can discover the last names of these five, we can check to see which, if any, already have IMDB pages.

It may be that the kids from Texas and Maryland have acting credits, too!

And regarding the avoidance of last names, I wonder why this press release reveals that the host is Jeff Foxworthy, instead of just calling him "Jeff". :P
