Burglary!!!

#1 Post by VAdame » Tue Jul 22, 2008 5:01 pm

Karen & Johnny's apartment was robbed today while they were out! :-(
Their laptops were taken along with video games. Not only a pain to replace but all their business files & music stuff are on those computers!!!! So this affects their ability to make a living.

They have a suspicion who did it and are talking to the police now -- the person got in thru a *small* kitchen window & left a NICE BIG HANDPRINT!

They were out meeting with their wedding photographer when the break-in happened!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! Some people are just rotten!

Keep 'em in your thoughts/prayers.

It is not the person they suspected -- which in a way is even scarier because now they don't know WHO it was! Now they don't want to stay there since they don't feel safe.

They're staying here tonight, and frantically looking for a new apartment. They're also worried about leaving the rest of their stuff overnight till they can get a truck tomorrow. :(

This sucks big time. Yeah, better to know the person or not?

At least they were not there!

We had a rash of burglaries in our neighborhood a few weeks ago- mostly hit'n'run jobs with the burglar targeting homes where garages were left open, etc.

Guy turned out to be a high school stoner who lived a couple of blocks away. His girlfriend turned him in after our neighborhood watch spotted her car being driven suspiciously through the neighborhood.

Morals of the story are- it's nice to have nosy neighbors, and guys- don't piss off your woman!

This is terrible....it must feel quite creepy.

Will there be a problem with breaking a lease or anything like that? Something like this happened to a friend of mine, and she had a helluva time getting out of her place.

How horribly frightening.

I am glad no one was home to feel what that would feel like.

Caught 'em!!!!!!

No details yet, but the police called last night & they caught someone and recovered at least most of the stolen stuff! They called pretty late last night so K & J will go meet them today.

Of course, they still don't feel safe, and they're currently camped out in my living room! And frantically looking for a new place. The landlord is a reasonable sort (we hope) and they had already been talking about moving before their year was up & he was cool with renting to them month-to-month.

More details as they come up :)

That is great news. Hopefully all items will be returned in working order.

This indeed good news. I hope they got their computer/s back in good condition and that they're able to resume their work. How was their jetpack?

Good news!!

I had to share my dumb thief break in story...when I was younger we came back from a family vacation to find the alarm had been set off while we were away. A quick search of the house showed that there was a broken window in the basement, but it appeared that the alarm scared them away before they got to the main part of the house. Looking around the basement, we found the tools they used to break in...they were personalized tools, like the kind Time/Life used to give away with magazine subscriptions or whatever! They broke in using personalized tools and left them...we thought maybe the tools were stolen too, but no, the police let us know that the person whose name was on the tools was in fact our burglar!

I can't remember exactly what they left, maybe a wrench and a hammer and a screwdriver. They were probably planning for picking locks or whatever.

Didn't she used to man the phones in the old days for WWTBAM?

She wouldn't give me a Round 2, but I got the "Mysteries of the Unknown" series as a free gift....

No jetpack -- but how's this for a robot companion ?? I finally got to stop by Phipps and watch "Moe" working (cutting grass) yesterday! Pretty cute -- and he plays music & makes "Baa" sounds as he walks around. One weird thing -- he has 6 legs! Moe's "shepherd" told me the front & back legs are for walking, and the 2 in the middle are for pivoting & turning.

(Sorry I can't post the pic, the site won't let me copy it!)

Thank God they caught the bad guys. I hope all the stuff is recovered and the ratbastards pay their proper debt to society.

In the future, Karen and Johnny might want to think about getting LoJack for their laptops (if they haven't already), which runs about $100 for three years of coverage. I think it's not foolproof and it only works if the thief tries to connect to the Internet, but I rest a little easier knowing I have a little extra protection.

I'm so happy that no one was hurt and that they actually recovered stuff. That just creeps me out. I"m sorry you all had to go through that.
Well, then
