Wedding Blog: BD**2 - 20
Wasn't T minus 20 where they put the automatic hold in the Space Race launches? Would that we could do it here ...
FSIL apparently did get chewed out about our intervention. Tough. If it was his fault because he had messed up something with the application, he deserved it. If it was someone else's fault, still tough, because he should have done more to push it through in a more timely and less nerve-wracking manner. GW is pissed at him about the whole matter. I tend to view it more as young male cluelessness (it takes a former one to know one) and with a "he'll learn" attitude.
Payments have started. Some of the smaller vendors prefer checks to credit cards. I don't mind, and fully understand their desire to keep the two or more percent the card companies stick them for. I just need to transfer enough money into the account to keep ahead of the checks. Maybe if I do it a little at a time, it won't seem like so much at the end. Call it the "boiled frog" school of economics.
Haven't had a reply from the rabbi about sending the ceremony to the ASL interpreter. I know we had told him up front about it, and gave him the interpreter's e-mail address last week. He may have sent it already without letting us know it was done. GW is antsy, so I'll contact him again.
BD had a good time in NYC. Visited Tiffany's, the Disney Store (where she miraculously did not buy anything), a bar with a mechanical bull (which she had to ride while wearing the blinking bride tiara her friends had given her), the Sex and the City tour, and I don't want to know what else.

I often offer to write a check at local shops. I don't bother at the big chains.gsabc wrote: Payments have started. Some of the smaller vendors prefer checks to credit cards.
Some locals don't take checks -- too much time and energy to track down the ones that bounce.

You are a lot nicer than I am. For the amount of jack you're laying out, I wouldn't really care what they preferred. Plus, if they don't deliver as promised, you can't do a chargeback on a check once it's cashed.gsabc wrote:Payments have started. Some of the smaller vendors prefer checks to credit cards. I only write one check a month (the utility company charges to take credit cards) in order to get as much Cashback rebate as possible.

I'm with you Fanny! I charge everything!! And I firmly believe stores and vendors built a buffer into their prices for credit cards (they know the fees before they agree to accept credit cards) so it shouldn't be a surprise to them that especially with large dollar purchases, people want to use credit cards to get rewards.

There are also vendors small enough that they don't accept credit cards. The big one, i.e., the venue, gets carded. Late this week or early next, IIRC. Better check my credit limit again.sunflower wrote:I'm with you Fanny! I charge everything!! If you know up front they don't take credit cards, that's different. I wouldn't be a bitch about it and argue with them about how they choose to do business, I'd either pay by check or find someone else who took plastic.gsabc wrote:There are also vendors small enough that they don't accept credit cards. From the way you said 'prefer check to credit cards', I thought you meant that you were getting ready to pay and they asked you to write a check instead.
PS to Sunflower: When Discover Card not only has their regular cashback rebate, but also has an additional percentage for certain vendors (like Bed Bath & Beyond), plus I have BB&B coupons, I almost get giddy at the prospect of buying something. Which is the whole reasoning behind the special rebate and coupons in the first place, of course. Ha!
With sales, rebate percentages, coupons I got my Dyson Animal for under $100.

Wow Fanny!! And here I was excited when I got my Dyson for under $200...when I snuck the coupon past them at Linens and Things, before they really realized that Dyson was excluded!! I want to go shopping with you!!!
I was very excited that I just got a free hotel room in FL, just by finding a better rate on a competing website. That's my fun saving story of the day!

Delta allows you to "pay with miles" to get a minimum of $100 off the price of the ticket without having to get an "award ticket". $100 is 10,000 miles, $150 is 15,000 etc.
Allows you to use the miles if you don't have the minumum of 25000 needed to get an award ticket.

Seriously, if you're getting your free trips from a card company, that's much easier than if you get them directly from the airlines.peacock2121 wrote:That could be.Bob Juch wrote:I guess no one else wants to go to where you do.peacock2121 wrote: I actually have just booked two tickets using them.

I looked into buying the tickets and it was $389.00.

I also liked that I could pick the leg out and the leg back. Like I picked 2 one ways. They would have even let me fly out on one airline and back on another. Still for the same miles.peacock2121 wrote:They didn't say - it is Expedia through the ThankYouRewards site.MarleysGh0st wrote:Assuming the equivalent of a %1 cash-back card makes that price $189 for the ticket.
