...this is $4-gas-hype gone overboard, I say!

Dad Sells Baby's Name for $100 Gas Card

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 12) - An Orlando man has traded the naming rights to his unborn son for a $100 gas card.

David Partin recently heard that a local radio station was giving $100 worth of free gas to the listener who called in with the most interesting item to trade. Central Florida radio hosts Richard Dixon and J. Willoughby were quick to take Partin up on his offer, The Orlando Sentinel reports.

When the baby is born this winter, he will be named Dixon and Willoughby Partin — with the "and" included.

Partin's girlfriend, Samantha, says at least her son will have an interesting story about how he got his name.

Dixon and Willoughby plan to be at the hospital when the baby is born and will hand over the gas card when they see the official birth certificate.

Not that my name is any great shakes, but ...

Oya - what Dad said when Mom told him she was pregnant ("Charmin'. Just Charmin'.")

Phoenix - also the name of our office manager's little girl. No idea why it's cropping up.

Marley (girl) - You not telling us something, friend gh0st?

Kesha & Mesha (twin girls, I also taught their older sister, Lesha) - to be followed, no doubt, by Nesha, Ouesa and Pesha. Make way for younglings!
I just ordered chicken and an egg from Amazon. I'll let you know.

Devaughn (boy)
DeVaughn (girl)
Cool! DeVaughn happens to be our last name :D

My brother-in-law Ricky DeVaughn has an adult stepson whose first name is DeVaughn (born & named years before his mom met Ricky!) He has his own dad's last name, but I can't remember what it is.

When Leah was born, one of the other moms on the maternity floor heard us talking about her name & misunderstood, thinking DeVaughn was her first name. She mentioned how pretty is was -- I had to laugh & say, no it's our LAST name! Of course we think Leah Louise DeVaughn is a pretty name too!

Quenten (boy)
Leah might have been Quentin or possibly Charles Quentin if she'd been male!

My former boss is a black guy named Jasper -- he's now in his early 80s & long retired, but we still keep in touch. About a year ago I met a 2 year old white boy named Jasper & told older Jasper about him -- he was shocked!

Names really do go in & out of fashion. I've always kind of liked Edna & Edwina (like Edwina Lewis from One Life to Live!) -- but not enough to saddle a human child with either -- although I have used Edna for a cat  Maybe someday they'll come back. I do know a girl in her early 20s named Edina (like Edina from Ab-Fab?) who went to school with Leah. I like Edwina better.

Hee hee -- remember the commercial for the Concord (car)?

Little girl riding with her mom, asks if it's true she was named after the place she was conceived: So, Mom....that's why my name is Savannah, right?

Mom: Yes...
Girl: OK (points to baby sister in car seat) -- so why is her name Concord?!

Mom: Ummmmm....Concord, New Hampshire, honey!

ETA: Had my parents used that system, I would be named Philadelphia

In Molly's case, her name would have to be "Thanksgiving at Grandma's house".

Would the unmarried father have the right to sell the naming of the child?

We joked around about naming the wee one Peroni, since we'd had so many of them in Rome. 8) (Really did consider the name Rome for a boy, but didn't want our kid to have a Bahama story....) [/img]
