Chose a photographer today. It was shocking to find out that even in our small town, some spend as much as $7000 on photos!

I don't think so. We did sign a contract for $2400, which includes a lot and he seemed to be willing to be quite accommodating for special requests and/or
extra things like doing the bride's photo 2 weeks ahead and candid shots as well as posed photos.

Her dad is still in denial as to what the whole affair will cost. This might have opened his eyes a little bit.

Oh yes, I forgot one thing. I got fitted for my Invisalign's today.
No, I'm NOT their oldest client.

I'm the middle child of 5. Back when I grew up, you didn't get braces unless you really, really needed them. Surprisingly, it's about $2000 less than I thought it would be.

That's exciting! Those things fascinate me. If they're $2000 less than what you thought, then they are way too dear for me, but I'll live vicariously through you.

I wonder if the prices have come down at all in the last few years. I got a consultation, I already had braces but had some movement and figured that if I needed lighter treatment, I'd get a lighter price. But I was told I was paying for the "technology" and even though I only needed 8 trays, where some people need upwards of 20, I had to pay the same amount, I believe it was almost $5,000. I've blocked it out because it was so traumatic. I know, time value of money and all, but my braces only cost $3,500 so I can't justify paying $5,000 for a "touch up"!

I think you will love them though, my friends who have had them had a way better experience than I ever had with my braces. Plus you can't eat with them in (like you can with braces) so it's a good diet tool as well. Not that you need it but I personally thought that was a selling point!!!

Natalie had them in the past year. She paid $2000 more than what I was quoted. I do know they mentioned the number of trays, and I'm pretty sure mine is less than what she had.

I agree with the weight loss....I'm hoping to drop 20 lbs by March. Maybe there will be a bright side.

Do you get the rights to the photos, or does the photographer retain them? Our costs are more (can't recall the exact amount or approximately how much more), but we're also getting a CD-ROM with all the shots on it, including the ones that won't be in the wedding album. The husband and wife team are also incredibly accommodating and great to deal with. They're worth the price.

Oh and gsabc's response made me remember something...make sure your photographer is the person who will be at your wedding. A friend of mine (well, let's use acquaintance, friend is a little strong considering I don't really like her ) hired a photographer and got a seemingly good deal and then found out the day of the event that his assistant was doing the photos and they weren't that pleased.

Hopefully that won't happen to you, but I think better to ask the question ahead of time (you may have already discussed that) than to be surprised that day.

Does the photographer do video also, or will that be a separate charge? (Assuming that there will be a video...)

This guy works out of his home and only has himself and one assistant.
May be the reason is price is less than the others. We got references and have spoken to two couples he recently photographed.

The price does include the CD. He and his assistant are both to be at the rehearsal dinner and the wedding/reception. We have a contract that pretty much specifies all that. I'll tell Natalie to reconfirm one more time before we give him our deposit.

My brother in law has a business on the side where he videos depositions, parties, weddings, etc. If a family member is getting married, it's his gift to the couple. That helps out a lot!
